A composition and process for making pet food treats is described herein. Auxiliary ingredients are combined to form a meat mixture. The meat mixture is formed into portions. The portions of meat mixture are positioned on a chew stick that comprises rawhide. The pet treat gives the appearance of a grilled shish kabob, where the meat portions are meant for initial taste, while the chew stick will provide the dog with a longer-lasting chewing portion.

CHEMICAL MITIGANTS IN ANIMAL FEED AND FEED INGREDIENTS

Methods of preventing or decreasing PEDv and/or Salmonella bacteria in animal feed, feed ingredients, and pet food are provided. The methods utilize generally safe chemical mitigants, such as medium chain fatty acids, essential oils, and sodium bisulfate. The chemical mitigants are introduced to the feed or feed ingredients at inclusion rates selected so as to prevent or decrease PEDv and/or Salmonella bacteria in the animal feed, feed ingredients, or pet rood. The methods are particularly suitable for use in post-processing treatment of animal feed, feed ingredients, or pet food that will be transported and stored for multiple days or weeks.

DRIED ANIMAL DIGEST COMPOSITIONS

A dried animal digest composition can include dried animal digest particles having an animal fat content of about 16 wt % or less and a moisture content of about 3 wt % or less. The dried animal digest particles in this example have a volume diameter particle size distribution where D10 is from about 20 ?m to about 50 ?m, D50 is from about 60 ?m to about 150 ?m, and D90 is from about 160 ?m to about 275 ?m. Furthermore, the dried animal digest composition is substantially devoid of silicon dioxide flow aid.

AN APPARATUS FOR STEAMING ANIMAL FODDER

The present invention provides an apparatus for steaming animal fodder comprising a body defining a chamber in which animal fodder may be placed. The body comprises an upper part and a lower part configured to be placed together to form the chamber. The lower part includes a floor on which the animal fodder is supported. The apparatus further comprises an aperture provided in the floor of the lower part, a conduit configured to carry steam to the aperture thereby allowing steam to pass into the chamber, and a controller arranged to control passage of steam to and through the aperture in at least one combined cycle. The at least one combined cycle comprises a low-pressure phase in which the controller allows steam to pass to and through the aperture into the chamber at a relatively low pressure, a high-pressure phase in which the controller allows steam to pass to and through the aperture into the chamber at a relatively high pressure, and such that each combined cycle of the least one combined cycle includes the low-pressure phase followed by the high-pressure phase.

The product will consist primarily of animal protein. Vitamins and mineral will be supplied via fruits and vegetables. Since the product is freeze dried the product will be semi-fractural and can be broken into smaller pieces for feeding. Each bar will be approximately 5 to 6 inches long, 2 to 3 inches wide, approximately inches think and weigh 2 to 3 ounces. A single bar will be targeted to feed a 40 pound dog. Dogs below 40 pounds would feed less than one bar (ex. 20 pound dog gets bar). Dogs above 40 pounds would feed more than one bar (ex. 80 pound dog gets 2 bars).

Composition and methods to control the outgrowth of pathogens and spoilage microorganisms in high moisture and low sodium systems

A method of inhibiting the outgrowth of pathogens and spoilage microorganisms in food and beverage products having a moisture content of about 38-80% by weight, a salt content of less than about 5.0% by weight, and a pH range of about 4.6 to about 8.5. The application of an organic acid or its salt with a fermentation derived antimicrobial peptide offers a robust solution to curtail growth of spores and vegetative cells without the need for chemicals, such as sodium nitrite, sodium nitrate or sorbate.

The present invention refers to an animal feed additive effective as broad-spectrum preservative, said feed additive comprises as active ingredients propionic acid, glyceryl propionates, hexanoic acid and optionally minor amounts of an alkali metal salt and/or a C7-C12 fatty acid. The present invention also refers to the use of said animal feed additive as a mould and/or yeast inhibitor and to the use of said animal feed additive as an inhibitor of aerobic bacteria.
