Fruit ferments containing propionate and use thereof
The present invention discloses a method to prepare a fruit ferment containing propionic acid and/or a salt thereof comprising i) obtaining a liquid fruit preparation, ii) optionally supplementing the liquid fruit preparation with water and/or with additional components to support fermentation, iii) fermenting the optionally supplemented liquid fruit preparation with a propionic acid-producing bacterial strain, iv) optionally further processing the fermentation product, to obtain the fruit ferment. Next to a propionic acid-producing bacterial strain, a lactic acid-producing bacterial strain may be used in the fermentation. The invention also relates to a fruit ferment obtainable by said method and the use in a food, beverage, as a probiotic and to improve the sensory properties and/or the storage stability is also disclosed.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR REDUCING BACTERIA FOR ITEMS AND EXTENDING SHELF LIFE WHEN APPLIED TO FOOD SURFACES
Systems, devices, and methods for substantially reducing surface contaminants of a food and inhibiting yeast, mold and bacteria growth in a food, beverage or food grade cosmetic preparation comprising a substantially transparent and odorless solution made from a plurality of substantially organic compounds selected from: citric acid, sodium citrate, vegetable glycerin sea salt, potassium sorbate, decyl glucoside, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, calcium ascorbate, grapefruit seed extract, Quillaja Saponin, Lauryl Glucoside, calcium carbonate, ascorbic acid, sodium percarbonate and sodium bisulfate, and an applicator for applying the solution to the food substance.
WHITE CELERY
The invention relates to a celery plant (Apium graveolens L. dulce) carrying a genetic determinant that leads to the absence or strong reduction of chlorophyll in the petioles, wherein said determinant is obtainable by introgression from a plant grown from seed of which a representative sample was deposited with the NCIMB under deposit number NCIMB 42428. The invention further relates to markers and the use of markers for the identification of a plant that has an absence or strong reduction of chlorophyll in the petioles. The invention also relates to seeds and other propagation material of the plant and to its progeny as well as to food products that comprise the consumable parts of the plant.
Resealable Spout for Selectively Accessing Coconut Water within a Coconut
A resealable spigot for a coconut that provides easy access by consumers to the sterile coconut water within a coconut includes a valve seat positioned within a coconut aperture and a plunger sleeve positioned within the valve seat. The plunger sleeve has a based positioned membrane that seals the coconut aperture, A plunger-stopper is tethered to the plunger sleeve for shipping and storage and is used by the consumer to pierce the plunger sleeve membrane to gain access to the coconut water. The plunger sleeve is also used to reseal the coconut aperture to preserve any remaining coconut water for future consumption. Further provided is an additional embodiment for a spigot comprising a conduit having a spike-tip on one end and a spout on the other with a through bore therebetween. The coconut having a partially inserted spigot is provided to the consumer whereby the consumer gains access to the sterile coconut water by pushing the partially inserted spigot to its seated position with a grommet provided as an insertion stop for the spigot. An optional air vent is provided to aid in fluid flow from the spigot.
