Disclosed embodiments provide techniques and apparatus for installing an elevator. A support frame is assembled at the top of an elevator passage. The permanent elevator motor is installed in the support frame. The permanent motor is then used to hoist materials as needed to build out the elevator system. Once built, the permanent motor that is already installed and has had hours of usage to verify its operation, is used for movement of the elevator car for the completed elevator system.

Device for limiting sway in an elevator travelling cable

A device for limiting sway in a travelling cable (6) in an elevator system is provided. The device comprises: a channel extending in a first direction for receiving the travelling cable (6) therein, wherein the channel is configured to be mounted in an elevator hoistway (2) such that the first direction corresponds to a direction of motion of an elevator car (4) within the hoistway (2); and an element (20) configured to move in the first direction along an open side of the channel simultaneously with an elevator car (4) and to push the travelling cable (6) into the channel when the element (20) moves along the open side thereof.

A transportation system for a building with multiple floors includes a shaft in the building, a traction sheave drive type elevator and a lift. The elevator vertically conveys persons using an elevator car that is movable in the shaft together with at least two counterweights, the elevator car and the counterweights moving in opposite directions. The elevator car and the counterweights are driven by drive engines with traction sheaves. The lift vertically conveys objects and is designed as a self-propelled lift. The lift has a lift platform designed as a vehicle for supplying goods, which vehicle can be brought in and out the shaft and which lies, when located in the shaft, within a vertical projection of the elevator car.

Movable machine room, elevator arrangement and method for constructing elevator

The invention relates to a movable machine room comprising a support platform of a hoisting machine, the support platform comprising one or more releasable mounting mechanisms for releasably mounting the moveable machine room in a hoistway, and a hoisting machine mounted on the support platform; a working platform on top of the support platform, preferably forming a roof of the moveable machine room and/or comprising handrails; and at least one support structure supported by which the working platform rests on the support platform; and wherein each said support structure is selectively actuatable to expand in vertical direction for hoisting the working platform higher above the support platform taking reaction force from the support platform, or to contract in vertical direction for lowering the working platform back towards the support platform. The invention relates to an arrangement and a method implementing the movable machine room.

ELEVATOR SYSTEM HAVING TWO ELEVATOR CARS IN A COMMON SHAFT

An elevator installation includes a first elevator car disposed in a shaft and connected to a counterweight by a first suspension having a first suspension means section, and a second suspension having a second suspension means section. A drive unit moves the elevator car by means of the first suspension. The elevator installation also includes a second elevator car that is movable in the shaft, independently of the first elevator car, via a second drive unit.

An illustrative example embodiment of an elevator includes an elevator car and a drive mechanism connected with the elevator car. The drive mechanism moves with the elevator car in a vertical direction. The drive mechanism includes drive members that are configured to engage surfaces associated with walls near opposite sides of the elevator car, climb along the surfaces to selectively cause movement of the elevator car, and selectively prevent movement of the elevator car when the drive members remain in a selected position relative to the wall.

Elevator

An elevator includes a compensating sheave, a compensating rope, a guide, a holder, a driver, a lateral vibration detector, and driver controller. The compensating rope is looped around the compensating sheave to be bent back upward in a hoistway, and has a first end connected to a car and a second end connected a counterweight, the compensating rope suspended from the car and the counterweight. The guide guides the compensating sheave in a vertically displaceable manner. The holder holds the guide to be displaceable in a horizontal direction. The driver drives the holder in the horizontal direction. The lateral vibration detector detects lateral vibration of the compensating rope. The driver controller controls the driver based on a result of detection by the lateral vibration detector and accordingly drive the holder in the horizontal direction so as to dampen lateral vibration of the compensating rope.
