METHOD FOR ENHANCING DEEP DEGRADATION OF PROTEINS IN SLUDGE
The present invention relates to a method for enhancing deep degradation of proteins in sludge. The method includes the following steps: an anaerobic digestion product of excess sludge as a substrate is treated by Van Soest's washing method to obtain the sludge free of easily degradable organics and containing degradation-resistant proteins; then, with the anaerobic digestion product of excess sludge as an inoculum and the sludge free of easily degradable organics and containing degradation-resistant proteins as a substrate, a first-stage microbial electrolytic cell coupled anaerobic digestion system is started for treatment to obtain a microbial mixture related to targeted degradation of the degradation-resistant proteins; with the microbial mixture related to targeted degradation of the degradation-resistant proteins as an inoculum and the anaerobic digestion product of excess sludge as a substrate, a second-stage microbial electrolytic cell coupled anaerobic digestion system is started to obtain the sludge with deeply degraded proteins.
Device for efficient continuous electrokinetic dewatering of phosphatic clay suspensions
Various examples related to electrokinetic dewatering (EKD) of suspensions such as, e.g., phosphatic clay suspensions are provided. In one example, a system for continuous EKD includes cake dewatering unit having a lower conveying belt extending across a dewatering chamber; an upper conveying belt extending across at least a portion of the dewatering chamber; and a sludge inlet configured to supply a sludge suspension on the first end of the lower conveying belt. The conveying belts can extend across the dewatering chamber at an angle. Rotation of the conveying belts draws the sludge suspension through an electric field where the sludge suspension is dewatered. The electric field can be established between an upper anode and a lower cathode. The upper and lower conveying belts can include the anode and cathode. A suspension thickening unit can provide a thickened sludge suspension the cake dewatering unit for enhanced dewatering.
Gelling F.O.G. for landfill disposal
A gel emulsification system and method for converting fats, oils, and grease (FOG) into a solid acceptable for landfill disposal. The method may include mixing FOG with a detergent and water to form an emulsion, adding viscosifier and a cross-linking agent to the emulsion, and mixing the emulsion and the viscosifier and cross-linking agent to form a gel. The system may include a container adapted to hold solids and liquids without leaking, a powdered detergent in the container to mix with water and a FOG to form an emulsion, and a powdered viscosifier and powdered cross-linking agent in the container adapted to thicken and cross-link the emulsion to form a gel. The gel formed passes a paint filter test (SW-846 Test Method 9095B).
DIGESTION OF ORGANIC SLUDGE
The invention is in the field of organic sludge digestion from various sources, such as manure, sludge from a wastewater treatment plant, and an organic fraction of dredging sludge. The present method provides advanced control for serially treating aqueous organic sludge by anaerobic digestion. It further relates to dewatering of the obtained biomass.
Process and apparatus for treating water with hydrated lime slurry and for dissolving scale
A method and apparatus is provided for treating water with already-slaked lime to arrive at a lime slurry that is in a solution or suspension, and delivering the thus treated water to a separating device which separates grit particles therefrom, to recover a high quality lime/water solution or suspension. An automated system controls the addition of lime and water to a lime mixing vessel. An acid wash system is provided which comprises an automated method and apparatus for removing scale buildup, for delivering an acid wash solution to the lime mixing vessel, the lime slurry holding tank and/or the delivery system, or any of them, thereby dissolving the scale buildup.
Cell wall or cell membrane disrupting device, and method of using the same
Provided is a cell wall or cell membrane disrupting device whereby cell walls and/or cell membranes of microorganisms, algae and the like contained in organic sludge and the like are disrupted, the device comprising a fixed disc, a rotating disc, a rotating shaft for driving of the rotating disc, a pressure reducing means and a housing, wherein at least one pair of the fixed disc and rotating disc are disposed facing each other, the center section of the fixed disc has a hollow section that is larger than the outer diameter of the rotating shaft passing through the center section, shearing force generated between the rotating disc and the fixed disc is applied to a target fluid having a water content of 89% or higher that has been loaded into the device, and the pressure inside the cell wall or cell membrane disrupting device is reduced to no greater than −0.08 MPa by the pressure reducing means. The device can contribute to increasing biogas, reducing sludge, culturing of algae, plant cultivation and culturing of marine products, and also to separation of CH.sub.4 and CO.sub.2, for example, as resources.
