BENT GLASS SHEET HELD DURING THE COOLING THEREOF

A cooling frame for a bent glass sheet, includes a support track for the sheet and a removable bearing piece that is able, in a bearing position and during cooling of the sheet by air blowing, to bear on the top face of the sheet and at the periphery thereof. The bent sheet cooled on the cooling frame maintains contact with the frame during the cooling operation and its shape complies better with that which is desired.

Forming Method for Curved Glass

A forming method for curved glass has been provided. The method comprises: placing a flat glass plate in a pattern die, and placing the pattern die in a forming apparatus; and subjecting the pattern die successively to staged heating, staged forming and staged cooling, so as to obtain the curved glass, wherein the staged heating is performed over stages which are different from each other in temperature, the staged forming is performed over stages which are different from each other in temperature, and during at least one of the stages, a varying pressure which varies from low pressure to high pressure is applied to the pattern die, the staged cooling is performed by cooling the glass plate in the pattern die over stages which are different from each other in temperature. The glass product could be used as front and rear covers of electronic products including notebook computers, mobile phones, tablet computers and smart watches.

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING PLATE GLASS

The method for manufacturing a plate glass is a method for manufacturing the plate glass having sides of at least 30 cm or more and a surface thereof on which a predetermined shape is formed. In the manufacturing method, the flat plate glass is heated to a temperature which is lower than a softening point and at which the heated flat plate glass is deformable by being pressed at a predetermined pressure or higher, the heated flat glass, which has been molded by pressing the flat plate glass with a die having a die structure for forming the predetermined shape, is cooled to the strain point while being held with the die. Further, in the manufacturing method, the pressing is performed with the die having a coefficient of thermal expansion whose difference from that of the plate glass is 2.0×10.sup.−6/K or less.

METHOD FOR WINDING A GLASS RIBBON, APPARATUS THEREFOR, AND THE GLASS ROLL PRODUCED THEREBY

A method for winding up a glass ribbon is provided, in which, prior to winding up the glass ribbon, the two surfaces of the glass ribbon are each initially treated with a water-containing medium and subsequently dried so as to produce a defined content of water molecules on the two surfaces, by achieving a saturation of the surfaces of the glass ribbon with water, without bringing about an excess of water molecules. A glass roll is produced in which the electrostatic charge of the glass surface is reduced and, as a result, any undesired excess adherence of the glass surface to an interleaf material is prevented and, in this way, glass breakage, in particular during winding up and/or unwinding of the glass roll, can be markedly reduced.

Bending device for shaping glass for use in aircraft transparencies

A glass sheet used in the making of an aircraft windshield is shaped using the “cut-to-size” method instead of the “cut-after-bend” method. In a preferred aspect of the invention the “cut-to-size” method is practiced using a bending iron having a sheet shaping rail having a stationary shaping rail portion mounted on a support member and an articulating shaping rail portion pivotally mounted on the support member for movement from a non-shaping position to a shaping position.

A shaped article can include a substrate formed from a glass material, a glass ceramic material, or a combination thereof and a cavity formed in the substrate. A sidewall of the cavity can have a random textured surface with a surface roughness of less than or equal to 300 nm. A method of machining a protrusion in a graphite block can include translating a cutting tool in a first longitudinal direction toward the graphite block to engage the graphite block with the cutting tool while rotating the cutting tool about a rotational axis without translating the cutting tool in a lateral direction, then translating the cutting tool in a second longitudinal direction away from the graphite block without translating the cutting tool in the lateral direction to disengage the cutting tool from the graphite block. A shaped article can be formed by pressing a preform with a monolithic graphite mold.
