METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR IMPROVING RELIABILITY OF COVER SUBSTRATE AGAINST IMPACT FRACTURES
A substrate having inner and outer major surfaces, a plurality of edge surfaces, and a plurality of corner surfaces; and at least one of: (i) a coating applied over a limited area of the outer major surface of the substrate to produce a composite structure, (ii) an intermediate layer applied to the inner major surface of the substrate, and (iii) an elongate discontinuity disposed at one or more corners of the substrate, each of which operates to reduce catastrophic failures in the substrate resulting from a dynamic sharp impact to the outer major surface of the substrate.
ANTI-SOILING COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING NANOPARTICLES AND POLYMERS WITH CARBOXYLIC ACID GROUPS OR SALTS THEREOF
A coating composition is provided comprising nanoparticles and certain polymers comprising carboxylic acid groups or salts thereof. When applied to articles, the coating is resistant to soiling by both dry dust and wet soil. Coated articles and methods of applying coatings are also described herein.
GLASS MEMBER
A glass member includes a recessed portion, wherein in cross-sectional view, an angle formed between a principal surface of the glass member and an edge face of an opening of the recessed portion is 90 degrees to 130 degrees.
Liquid composition and its production process, and glass article
To provide a liquid composition capable of forming a coating film which has sufficient ultraviolet-absorbing ability and infrared-absorbing ability. A liquid composition for forming a coating film comprising an infrared absorber selected from indium tin oxide, antinomy tin oxide and a composite tungsten oxide, an ultraviolet absorber selected from a benzophenone compound, a triazine compound and a benzotriazole compound, a dispersing agent having an acid value and/or an amine value, a binder component and a liquid medium, wherein the dispersing agent is contained in a content such that the product of the sum (mgKOH/g) of the acid value and the amine value of the dispersing agent, and the mass ratio of the dispersing agent to the infrared absorber, is from 2 to 30 (mgKOH/g).
METHOD FOR PROCESSING A TRANSPARENT COVER PLATE AND COVER PLATE
A method for processing a transparent cover plate for a flat body includes the following steps of providing the transparent cover plate having an outer side and an opposite inner side, wherein the transparent cover plate includes a structured area with a light-scattering structure, forming of at least one optical interference layer on a cover plate side including applying a mask to the transparent cover plate, wherein the mask does not cover a first area of a cover plate surface and covers a second area of the cover plate side, and the first area and the second area are arranged to overlap the structured area, the at least one optical interference layer is applied in overlap with the mask, and removing of the mask, whereby the at least one optical interference layer is also removed.
Transparent substrate, in particular a glass substrate, coated with at least bifunctional porous layer, manufacturing method and uses thereof
A transparent glass or ceramic or glass-ceramic substrate, coated with a functional layer or with a stack of at least two functional layers, the functional layer or at least one of the functional layers of the stack being porous and made of an inorganic material M1, wherein the or at least one of the porous functional layer(s) of inorganic material M1 has, at the surface of at least one portion of the pores thereof, at least one inorganic material M2 different from M1.
ARTICLES WITH PATTERNED COATINGS
Embodiments of an article including a substrate and a patterned coating are provided. In one or more embodiments, when a strain is applied to the article, the article exhibits a failure strain of 0.5% or greater. Patterned coating may include a particulate coating or may include a discontinuous coating. The patterned coating of some embodiments may cover about 20% to about 75% of the surface area of the substrate. Methods for forming such articles are also provided.
Infrared ray shielding film
An infrared ray shielding film having a metal particle-containing layer in which hexagonal to circular tabular metal particles are contained in 60% by number or more relative to total number of the metal particles contained in the metal particle-containing layer exhibits excellent infrared ray reflection at a wide range of from 800 nm to 2000 nm and shows little heat ray absorption.
COATED GLASSES WITH HIGH EFFECTIVE FRACTURE TOUGHNESS
Glass-based articles comprise high effective fracture toughness. Glass-based articles comprise: a glass-based substrate comprising opposing first and second surfaces defining a substrate thickness (t.sub.s), a substantially planar central portion, and a perimeter portion; a polymer coating disposed on at least a portion of at least one of the first or the second surfaces; and an effective fracture toughness that is greater than or equal to 1.25 MPa.m.sup.0.5 as measured at room temperature.
Asymmetric chemical strengthening
Asymmetrically strengthened glass articles, methods for producing the same, and use of the articles in portable electronic device is disclosed. Using a budgeted amount of compressive stress and tensile stress, asymmetric chemical strengthening is optimized for the utility of a glass article. In some aspects, the strengthened glass article can be designed for reduced damage, or damage propagation, when dropped.
