INTERMEDIATE-RELEASE FERTILIZERS AND METHODS FOR MAKING SAME
A fertilizer comprises an intermediate-release source of phosphorus. The intermediate-source of phosphorus may be schertelite. In one embodiment, the intermediate-source of phosphorus may consist substantially all of the phosphorous content in the fertilizer. In other embodiments, the fertilizer further comprises one or both of a slow-release and fast-release source of phosphorus. The fertilizer may be in the form of a homogenous prill. A number of methods may be used to make such fertilizers.

The invention relates to methods and equipment for treating industrial vapor and liquid waste streams to remove certain compounds and concentrate those compounds to produce a chemical product. Specifically, the invention related to methods and equipment for condensing vapor waste streams and combining those streams with other liquid waste streams, and processing those combined streams to separate certain compounds for further processing into a chemical product, such as a fertilizer, and to thereby to reduce pollution, odor, and nutrient loading to air and water resources and wastewater processing systems.

A method for producing a poultry litter-based fertilizer by a) supplying poultry litter to a rotating rotary drum, b) adding acid or a source of acid to the rotating rotary drum, wherein acid reacts with the poultry litter to form an acidified mixture, c) adding ammonia or a source of ammonia to the rotating rotary drum, d) drying and cooling the ammoniated product by evaporation of water to form a dried, cooled product in a free-flowing semi-solid or solid form, repeating the steps b) through d) until a desired nitrogen content is reached in the poultry litter-based fertilizer.

Disclosed is a slow-release fertilizer composition containing a mixture of calcium ammonium phosphate and magnesium ammonium phosphate. The fertilizer can further include silica, which contributes to the slow-release functionality by acting as a scaffold within which calcium ammonium phosphate and magnesium ammonium phosphate are provided. Methods of making and using the slow-release fertilizer composition are also disclosed.

Disclosed is a fertilizer containing a mixture containing i) calcium ammonium phosphate (CaNH.sub.4PO.sub.4), magnesium ammonium phosphate (MgNH.sub.4PO.sub.4), or a combination of CaNH.sub.4PO.sub.4 and MgNH.sub.4PO.sub.4 and ii) a mixture of calcium sulfate and ammonium sulfate ((NH.sub.4).sub.2Ca(SO.sub.4).sub.2), a mixture of magnesium sulfate and ammonium sulfate ((NH.sub.4).sub.2Mg(SO.sub.4).sub.2), or a combination of the (NH.sub.4).sub.2Ca(SO.sub.4).sub.2, and the (NH.sub.4).sub.2Mg(SO.sub.4).sub.2. Methods of making and using the fertilizer are also disclosed.
