A composition and method for producing an organic material with an inorganic coating. The inorganic coating may include ammonium sulfate. The present disclosure also provides a fertilizer having an inorganic coating. A method according to the present disclosure includes granulating an organic material and coating the organic material with a reactive coating composition. The inorganic coating material may be generated in situ to the process of coating the organic material.

Some embodiments are directed to a process for forming products from animal waste (e.g., poultry litter). The products may include a controlled release fertilizer and renewable natural gas. The process may include providing a feedstock comprising greater than about 80 percent poultry waste and a moisture content of about 25 percent. The feedstock may be diluted to form a slurry having a moisture content of about 90%. The slurry may be mechanically refined to reduce the particle size distribution and the average particle size of the slurry. The slurry may be anaerobically digested to produce biogas and a digestate. The biogas may be converted to renewable natural gas, and the digestate may be converted to a controlled release fertilizer. Additionally, some embodiments are directed to methods of reducing nitrogen emission from soil amendments. Some embodiments are directed to reducing nitrogen emissions sufficient to produce emissions offset credits.

This invention discloses and claims a system comprising greenhouses for receiving biosolids comprising a heated slab and an odor control system; a pasteurization building to receive the biosolids from the greenhouse, at least one pasteurization system comprising heat up belts, a burner fan to heat the biosolids, a pasteurization belt to convey the biosolids through a pasteurization chamber; holding tanks to receive the biosolids and enhancement storage to hold enhancements, a scale and a blender to blend the biosolids with the one or more enhancements, a pellet mill to receive a blended fertilizer, the pellet mill comprising a die to form the blended fertilizer into a pellet and a knife to cut the pellet to a desired length, wherein the pellet mill further comprises a temperature-controlled die operable to control the temperature of the blended fertilizer to promote the formation of the pellets.
