Additives for improving polyurethane foam performance
Polyurethane foam compositions and processes to make flexible polyurethane foams are disclosed. Polyurethane foam is produced in the presence of additives comprising guanidine derivatives. Improvements in physical properties such as air flow, dimensional stability, tensile, tear, elongation and foam hardness is observed when these additives are present in polyurethane formulations. In addition, these additives can minimize polymer degradation under humid ageing conditions resulting in foam products with better mechanical properties.
Polyurethane foams with decreased aldehyde emissions, a process for preparing these foams and a method for decreasing aldehyde in polyurethane foams
This invention relates to polyurethane foams which exhibit decreased aldehyde emission, to a process of preparing these polyurethane foams, and to a method of decreasing aldehyde emissions in foams. The polyurethane foams herein additionally comprise a small quantity of a polyhydrazodicarbonamide dispersion polyol to the isocyanate-reactive component, or a trimerized hexamethylene diisocyanate to the polyisocyanate component.
NITROGEN-CONTAINING COMPOUNDS SUITABLE FOR USE IN THE PRODUCTION OF POLYURETHANES
The present invention provides for the use of nitrogen compounds of formula (I) and/or of corresponding quaternized and/or protonated compounds for production of polyurethanes, compositions containing these compounds and polyurethane systems, especially polyurethane foams, which have been obtained using the compounds.
ALDEHYDE SCAVENGERS FOR POLYURETHANE FOAMS
A polyurethane composition comprising an aldehyde scavenger, a polyurethane product, and a process for making polyurethane foam are disclosed. The scavenger compounds can reduce, if not eliminate, the emissions of aldehydes from polyurethane foams. The scavenger compounds comprise at least one member selected from the group consisting of: phenol or substituted phenol, a 1,3-dicarbonyl compound, a polyamine bearing a 1,3-propanediamino function, melamine, a 1,2-diaminocycloalkane, an ammonium salt; a compound containing the bisulfite anion, titanium dioxide and aminosiloxane.
Reducing emissions in polyurethane foam
This invention disclosure relates to a process to make flexible open cell polyurethane foam with optimum mechanical properties and lowest chemical emissions. Using the selection of tertiary amine catalysts together with a group of carboxylic acids according to this disclosure can produce foam products with optimum properties and lowest chemical emanations.
OXAZOLINE ANTI-CONDENSATION COMPOSITIONS, LAMINATES, AND PROCESSES FOR MAKING THE SAME
Anti-condensation compositions and laminates comprising a cellulosic material selected from a cellulose ester and a cellulose ether and a polymer of an oxazoline, and processes for making such anti-condensation compositions without the need for saponification. Such compositions have now been shown to exhibit extremely desirable anti-condensation characteristics, with a low degree of hazing and increased hardness.
HYDROPHILIC ANTI-FOG COATINGS
The present invention relates to hydrophilic anti-fog coatings. In particular, the coatings use two types of nanoscale particles, colloidal silica and porous organosilicate micelles, in a polyurethane matrix. The invention is an anti-fog coating for optically clear substrates (polycarbonate, polyurethane, nylon, polyester and other clear plastics) without the need for a primer and glass substrates with an additional primer layer, comprising monosized colloidal silica nanoparticles and porous organosilicate micelles in a polyurethane matrix. The silica is preferably 1-5% by weight and the micelles are loaded at 0.1 to 10% volume percentage by volume. The polyurethane prepolymer is dissolved at 10-40% by weight in a mixture of tertiary amyl alcohol and diacetone alcohol to customize for dip, flow or spray coating processes.
COMPOSITION FOR POLYURETHANE FOAM, FOAM PREPARED THEREFROM AND A METHOD THEREOF
A composition and method for preparing a polyurethane foam. The composition comprises at least one emission control agent. In embodiments, the composition comprises at least one emission control agent selected from the group consisting of (i) a phosphorous containing group; (ii) a thiocarbamate; (iii) a nitrogen containing compound; (iv) a phenolic antioxidant; or a combination of two or more thereof. The invention also relates to a method of controlling the emission of at least one aldehyde species in a raw material employed in the foam composition or that may be produced during the foam forming or foam curing or foam aging process.
LAMINATING ADHESIVES BASED ON PRIMARY HYDROXYL-CONTAINING CURATIVES
A curative containing two or more primary hydroxyl groups per molecule and one or more moieties derived from a secondary hydroxyl-containing polyol such as polypropylene glycol is prepared in a multistage process wherein the secondary hydroxyl-containing polyol is end-capped with an excess of a reactant such as a polybasic acid and the resulting functionalized intermediate is then reacted with a polyol such as glycerin or diethylene glycol containing primary hydroxyl groups. Such curatives may be used in combination with isocyanate-functionalized polyurethane prepolymers to provide two component adhesives useful for laminating thin films and/or foils.
