Polysaccharide coatings with oxygen barrier properties
Disclosed herein are coated articles comprising a substrate having at least one surface, and a coating composition disposed in a substantially continuous layer on at least one surface of the substrate, wherein the coating composition is present in an amount sufficient to increase the oxygen barrier property of the substrate, and the coating composition comprises a polysaccharide derivative. The polysaccharide derivative can comprise a poly alpha-1,3-glucan ether compound, such as a quaternary ammonium alpha-1,3-glucan ether. Also disclosed is packaging comprising the coated article.
Composite film and preparation method thereof
The present invention provides a composite film and a preparation method thereof. The composite film includes polyimide and a dense silica layer formed on a surface of the polyimide.
Plasmonic assisted systems and methods for interior energy-activation from an exterior source
A method and a system for producing a change in a medium disposed in an artificial container. The method places in a vicinity of the medium at least one of a plasmonics agent and an energy modulation agent. The method applies an initiation energy through the artificial container to the medium. The initiation energy interacts with the plasmonics agent or the energy modulation agent to directly or indirectly produce the change in the medium. The system includes an initiation energy source configured to apply an initiation energy to the medium to activate the plasmonics agent or the energy modulation agent.
RESIN FOR PRODUCTION OF POROUS CERAMIC STEREOLITHOGRAPHY AND METHODS OF ITS USE
A ceramic resin is provided, along with its methods of formation and use. The ceramic resin may include a crosslinkable precursor, a photoinitiator, ceramic particles, and pore forming particles. The ceramic resin may be utilized to form a ceramic casting element, such as via a method that includes forming a layer of the ceramic resin; applying light onto the ceramic resin such that the photoinitiator initiates polymerization of the crosslinkable precursor to form a crosslinked polymeric matrix setting the ceramic particles and the pore forming particles; and thereafter, heating the crosslinked polymeric matrix to a first temperature to burn out the pore forming particles.
MATERIALS EXHIBITING BIOMIMETIC CARBON FIXATION AND SELF-REPAIR
A composition can photocatalytically reduce carbon dioxide.

A composition can photocatalytically reduce carbon dioxide.
Covalently-bound polybromocyclododecane flame retardants
A polybrominated flame-retardant compound, a process for forming a flame-retardant material, and an article of manufacture are disclosed. The polybrominated flame-retardant compound includes a cyclododecane moiety, at least two bromo groups, and at least one substituent having a reactive functional group. The process includes forming a polybromocyclododecane (PBCD) compound having at least one reactive functional group and incorporating the PBCD compound into a polymer in a process that includes covalent binding of the PBCD compound. The article of manufacture includes a flame-retardant material that comprises a polymer with a covalently-bound PBCD compound.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING A FOAM COMPONENT
A method for producing a foam component includes providing a particulate starting material in a mold, softening the starting material, inducing a pressure change within the mold to cause foaming in at least a portion of the softened starting material without the use of a blowing agent, and solidifying the foamed starting material.

A method of forming a voided polymer includes forming a polymerizable composition containing a polymer precursor and a solid templating agent, forming a coating of the polymerizable composition, processing the coating to form a cured polymer material having a solid phase in a plurality of defined regions, and removing at least a portion of the solid phase from the cured polymer material to form a voided polymer layer.
ORIENTED FILM COMPRISING POLY(ETHYLENE-2,5-FURANDICARBOXYLATE)
An oriented film including poly(ethylene-2,5-furandicarboxylate) is produced in a process by preparing a sheet from a poly(ethylene-2,5-furandicarboxylate) resin by heat processing, which sheet has a thickness of at most 2.5 mm; allowing the sheet to cool; and stretching the cooled sheet in at least one direction with a stretch ratio of at least 4/1 at a temperature in the range of 90 to 130° C., yielding an oriented film. The oriented film has a thickness of 1 to 400 μm and a tensile strength at break of at least 100 MPa.
