Inter-penetrating elastomer network derived from ground tire rubber particles
Crumb rubber obtained from recycled tires is subjected to an interlinked substitution process. The process utilizes a reactive component that interferes with sulfur bonds. The resulting treated rubber exhibits properties similar to those of the virgin composite rubber structure prior to being granulated, and is suitable for use in fabricating new tires, engineered rubber articles, and asphalt rubber for use in waterproofing and paving applications.

ORGANOMETALLIC COMPOUND INCORPORATED WITHIN EXISTING SULFUR CROSS-LINKED RUBBER MORPHOLOGY
An organometallic compound is incorporated into a vulcanized rubber matrix. A tunable, multi-phase copper sulfide lattice is compounded within an existing sulfur cross-linked morphology, as in crumb rubber obtained from recycled tires or other vulcanized rubber, whereby thermotropic properties of the rubber matrix are modulated. The process involves breaking of sulfur-sulfur and/or sulfur-carbon bonds through action of the carbon sulfide. The resulting rubber is suitable for use in applications typically utilizing virgin rubber, such as new tires, engineered rubber articles, and asphalt rubber for use in waterproofing and paving applications. In other embodiments, an organometallic compound comprising iron acetate or alkaline earth metal acetate is incorporated into the vulcanized rubber matrix.
DESULFURIZED RUBBER, RUBBER COMPOSITION, RUBBER COMPOSITION FOR TIRE, TIRE, HOSE, BELT, CRAWLER
Provided is a desulfurized rubber capable of producing a crosslinked rubber having an excellent mechanical strength. The desulfurized rubber contains a solvent-soluble rubber component A having a weight-average molecular weight of more than 260,000 and less than 600,000, and a solvent-insoluble rubber component B, wherein the content ratio of the rubber component B is less than 45% by mass of the total mass of the content a of the rubber component A and the content b of the rubber component B.

SUSTAINABLE TIRE WASTE AEROGEL WITH TUNABLE FLEXIBILITY MADE FROM RECYCLED TIRES FOR AUTOMOTIVE APPLICATIONS
A method of manufacturing an elastic polymer aerogel material includes dissolving tire waste in a first portion of a solvent to form a first mixture; dissolving a polymer having at least one double carbon-carbon bond in a second portion of the solvent to form a second mixture; combining the first mixture and the second mixture, wherein the tire waste reacts with the polymer having at least one double carbon-carbon bond to form a reactant gel; and undergoing a solvent exchange on the reactant gel followed by freeze drying the reactant gel to form the elastic polymer aerogel material. The tire waste includes natural rubber, synthetic polymers, steel, and curing systems, and the elastic polymer aerogel material defines a 3D porous structure.
Carbon Supports for Oxygen Reduction Catalysts
The invention provides a method of making a electrocatalyst from waste tires. The method comprises the steps of providing rubber pieces; optionally contacting the rubber pieces with a sulfonation bath to produce sulfonated rubber; pyrolyzing the rubber to produce tire-derived carbon composite comprising carbon black, wherein the pyrolyzing comprises heating to at least 200 C.-2400 C.; activating the tire-derived carbon composite by contacting the tire-derived carbon composite with an alkali anion compound to provide activated tire-derived carbon supports; and loading the activated carbon-based supports with platinum cubes. In another embodiment, the tire-derived carbon composite is activated by annealing in a carbon dioxide atmosphere.
