THERMOPLASTIC ELASTOMERS DERIVED FROM DE-VULCANIZED RUBBER
A thermoplastic copolymer is made by first de-vulcanizing a sulfur-crosslinked elastomeric material to produce a liquid phase component. The liquid phase component is subsequently mixed with a compatible thermoplastic polymer at a temperature above its melting point thereof, and the resulting mixture is cooled to produce a solid product.
Sustainable tire waste aerogel with tunable flexibility made from recycled tires for automotive applications
A method of manufacturing an elastic polymer aerogel material includes dissolving tire waste in a first portion of a solvent to form a first mixture; dissolving a polymer having at least one double carbon-carbon bond in a second portion of the solvent to form a second mixture; combining the first mixture and the second mixture, wherein the tire waste reacts with the polymer having at least one double carbon-carbon bond to form a reactant gel; and undergoing a solvent exchange on the reactant gel followed by freeze drying the reactant gel to form the elastic polymer aerogel material. The tire waste includes natural rubber, synthetic polymers, steel, and curing systems, and the elastic polymer aerogel material defines a 3D porous structure.
Process for regenerating sulfur-crosslinked rubber vulcanizates to give regenerates
A process for regenerating sulfur-crosslinked rubber vulcanizates to regenerates, wherein at least one regenerating agent is used in the regeneration. The regenerating agent is selected from the group consisting of dithiophosphoryl polysulfides and/or silanes having a polysulfane group. Regenerates which have been produced by means of the process lead to improved or equal rolling resistance indicators and a lower compression set in vulcanized rubber mixtures compared to regenerates known in the prior art.
METHOD FOR CONVERTING RUBBER WASTE TO FUNCTIONALIZED ACTIVATED CARBON
Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to a method for converting rubber waste to a functionalized activated carbon (AC). The method includes pyrolysis of waste/scrap tires to produce activated carbon; (ii) chemical activation of the activated carbon using an oxidizing agent; and (iii) and functionalization of the chemically activated carbon with 1,2,3,4,6-pentagalloylglucose (pentagallic acid ester of glucose) to produce the AC. The method of the present disclosure converts waste-to-value-added products, thereby enhancing profitability by recycling the waste products. Such processes are the source of renewable energy (gas and oil) and valuable by-products.
Inter-penetrating elastomer network derived from ground tire rubber particles
Crumb rubber obtained from recycled tires is subjected to an interlinked substitution process. The process utilizes a reactive component that interferes with sulfur bonds. The resulting treated rubber exhibits properties similar to those of the virgin composite rubber structure prior to being granulated, and is suitable for use in fabricating new tires, engineered rubber articles, and asphalt rubber for use in waterproofing and paving applications.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR RECYCLING RUBBER WASTE INTO SURFACE-MODIFIED DEVULCANIZED RUBBER OR AN END-OF-LIFE TIRE (ELT) COMPOUND
A system and a method for producing a surface devulcanized crumb rubber from vulcanized crumb rubber. The method comprising applying a dose of microwave energy to micronized vulcanized crumb rubber sufficient to sever sulfidic cross-links in the surface of the micronized vulcanized rubber crumb to produce a devulcanized crumb rubber. In aspects, the method relates to a method for producing an end-of-life tire compound from vulcanized crumb rubber comprising obtaining a surface devulcanized crumb rubber; mixing the surface devulcanized crumb rubber with a plastic polymer and/or an oil to form a devulcanized rubber mixture; and extruding the mixture through an extruder to produce the end-of-life tire compound.
METHOD FOR RECYCLING ELASTOMERS, RECYCLED ELASTOMERS, AND USE OF THE RECYCLED ELASTOMERS
The present invention relates to a process for recycling solid waste from vulcanized elastomers based on sulphur or crosslinked with peroxides. In this context, the present invention proposes the recycling of said waste by means of radical de-crosslinking in the presence of ozone and de-crosslinking agents, without the use of high temperatures. The present invention also relates to recycled elastomers and the use of said recycled elastomers obtained by means of said process.
Single-Screw Extrusion Desulfurization And Post-Processing System, And Method For Preparing Reclaimed Rubber
A single-screw extrusion desulfurization and post-processing system and a method for preparing reclaimed rubber. The single-screw extrusion desulfurization and post-processing system comprises: a single-screw desulfurization device, a single-screw post-processing device and a closed connection device for connecting the single-screw desulfurization device and the single-screw post-processing device, the single-screw post-processing device includes a post-processing feeding unit and a post-processing unit which are connected with each other, and a post-processing screw running through the post-processing feeding unit and the post-processing unit.
DEWATERING DEVULCANIZED RUBBER
A method for the controlled removal of water from devulcanized rubber, comprising steps of contacting the devulcanized rubber with a solvent, dissolving the water out of the devulcanized rubber and into solution without removing other components in the rubber such as polymer, separating the devulcanized rubber from the solvent, and drying the devulcanized rubber. By controlling the amount of water that is in the solvent-solution, and/or the amount of time the devulcanized rubber is in contact with the solvent solution the amount of water that is removed can be controlled. By controlling the amount of water that is removed the rheology/viscosity (e.g. G and G) of the devulcanized rubber can be controlled.
