HIERARCHICAL SILICA LAMELLA FOR MAGNETIC NUCLEIC ACID EXTRACTIONS
20220055040 · 2022-02-24 ·

Disclosed herein is a novel method to fabricate magnetic silica nanomembranes using thin polymer cores based on silica deposition and self-wrinkling induced by thermal shrinkage. These micro- and nano-scale structures have vastly enlarged the specific area of silica, thus the magnetic silica nanomembranes can be used for solid phase extraction of nucleic acids. The magnetic silica nanomembranes are suitable for nucleic acid purification and isolation and demonstrated better performance than commercial particles in terms of nucleic acid recovery yield and integrity. In addition, the magnetic silica nanomembranes may have high nucleic acid capacity due to significantly enlarged specific surface area of silica. Methods of use and devices comprising the magnetic silica nanomembranes are also provided herein.

Sacrificial microspheres

A polymeric material can be deposited or coated on a surface of a hollow microsphere to produce a sacrificial microsphere. Sacrificial microspheres can provide a cost-effective way to produce lightweight plastics and composites.

PROCESS FOR PRODUCING PELLETS OF SOFT COPOLYMERS
20170283562 · 2017-10-05 ·

The present invention deals with a process for producing pellets from olefin copolymers. The process comprises: (i) melting the olefin copolymer in an extruder; (ii) extruding the molten olefin copolymer through a die plate into a pellet water bath in a pelletiser thereby producing strands of the olefin copolymer; (iii) cutting the strands of the olefin copolymer in the pelletiser into pellets; and (iv) drying the pellets. The pellet water in the pelletiser contains from 0.1 to 5% by weight of a colloidal silica based on the weight of the water.

Process for producing thin coatings on film

Conventional atomic layer deposition technology is modified to increase its cost-effective viability for use in producing thinly coated flexible packaging film. In one embodiment a thinly coated flexible substrate, e.g., a polyolefin film, is made by a process comprising the steps of: (A) Dissolving a self-limiting precursor in a solvent to form a solution of dissolved self-limiting precursor in the solvent, (B) Applying the solution to a facial surface of a flexible polymer film so that at least a portion of the dissolved self-limiting precursor attaches to the facial surface of the film and the solution is at least partially depleted of self-limiting precursor, and (C) Curing the attached self-limiting precursor by contact with oxygen.
