INTER-PENETRATING ELASTOMER NETWORK DERIVED FROM GROUND TIRE RUBBER PARTICLES
Crumb rubber obtained from recycled tires is subjected to an interlinked substitution process. The process utilizes a reactive component that interferes with sulfur bonds. The resulting treated rubber exhibits properties similar to those of the virgin composite rubber structure prior to being granulated, and is suitable for use in fabricating new tires, engineered rubber articles, and asphalt rubber for use in waterproofing and paving applications.
METHOD AND SYSTEMS FOR TRANSPORTING BITUMEN IN SOLIDIFIED FORM
A solid bitumen pellet, including a mixture of bitumen and an additive, where the additive operates to increase the viscosity of the mixture. Optionally, the pellet includes a protective shell.
Crosslinked products prepared by ionically crosslinking a solid grade oligomer and a polymer using an ionic crosslinking agent and methods of making the same
Disclosed herein are compositions comprising a crosslinked product prepared by ionically crosslinking a solid grade oligomer and a polymer using an ionic crosslinking agent. In some embodiments, the polymer is derived from a hydrophobic monomer and/or a gas-phase mono-mer. In some embodiments, the solid grade oligomer is reacted with a polymer comprising a hydrophobic monomer and/or a gas-phase monomer. The present disclosure also relates to methods of making the disclosed compositions. The compositions disclosed herein can be used in a variety of applications including, but not limited to, asphalt compositions, paints, coatings, carpet compositions, paper binding and coating compositions, foams, or adhesives.
BITUMINOUS TILE WITH GRIT COATING AND METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION THEREOF
A bituminous tile with grit coating may include: a support layer including a base layer made of non-woven glass fiber fabric, having a first major surface to which a glass fiber net is coupled which covers at least 80% of the first major surface; a first external bituminous layer covering the net and the first major surface; a second external bituminous layer covering a second major surface of the base layer, facing away from the first major surface; a grit including ceramized colored mineral granules, covering the second external bituminous layer. A method for producing such a bituminous tile may include: (a) impregnating the support layer at 120-180? C.; (b) covering the impregnated support layer with non-adhesive bituminous compound at 170-210? C. to define the first and second external bituminous layers; (c) depositing the grit on the second external bituminous layer at 120-170? C.; (d) cutting the covered support layer to obtain tiles.
ENHANCEMENT OF HIGH TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE OF ASPHALT BINDERS MODIFIED WITH LDPE/RPE AND SULFUR
An asphalt binder composition includes a base asphalt binder, low-density polyethylene (LDPE), and sulfur. The LDPE includes LDPE 70. The base asphalt binder is blended with the LDPE and the sulfur.
AEROGEL MODIFIED BITUMINOUS BINDERS AND MIXTURES
An acrogel composite includes aerogel particles and an encapsulator. The aerogel particles are coated with the encapsulator to yield an acrogel composite. Making an aerogel composite includes combining an encapsulator and aerogel particles, mixing the encapsulator and the aerogel particles to yield a granular blend including coated acrogel particles, and increasing a rate of mixing over a length of time to yield the aerogel composite.
MODIFIED ASPHALT WITH GELATINOUS CARRIER MATERIAL
A polymer modified asphalt (PMA) includes a modifier material mixed with hot asphalt to form a modified asphalt mixture and in which a gelatinous carrier material is mixed with an acidic activator material and a curing agent to form a solid crosslinking agent. The solid crosslinking agent is mixed with the modified asphalt mixture to produce a modified asphalt material having improved rheological characteristics which prevents gel and lump formation in PMA.
Polymer-Modified Asphalt With Wax Additive
An improved method forms and employs a wax to modify asphalt. The method includes: (a) selecting a solid polymeric material, (b) heating the solid polymeric material in an extruder to produce a molten polymeric material, (c) filtering the molten polymeric material, (d) placing the molten polymeric material through a chemical depolymerization process in a reactor to produce a depolymerized polymeric material, and (e) adding the depolymerized material to a pre-wax mixture to produce a polymer-modified asphalt. The addition of wax reduced the mixing time necessary to achieve improved polymer dispersion compared to the control formulation modified bitumen and reduced the viscosity of the neat bitumen. Pre-polymer addition of wax is detrimental to most properties of the resulting modified asphalt. Post-polymer addition improved viscosity reduction, higher softening point and improved dimensional stability.
ASPHALTIC SHEET MATERIALS INCLUDING EXPANDABLE GRAPHITE
An asphaltic sheet comprising an asphaltic component including an asphalt binder and expandable graphite.
Method and systems for transporting bitumen in solidified form
A solid bitumen pellet, including a mixture of bitumen and an additive, where the additive operates to increase the viscosity of the mixture. Optionally, the pellet includes a protective shell.
