Blends of elastomer composites with unfilled or less highly filled elastomer reduces hysteresis without compromising reinforcement. Hysteresis may also be reduced by adjusting the compounding method.

COLD WEATHER TIRE

Provided is a cold weather tire achieving a balanced improvement in fuel economy, abrasion resistance, performance on ice and snow, and high-speed performance (handling stability, grip performance) on snow- and ice-free roads at low temperatures. The cold weather tire includes a cap tread formed of a rubber composition that contains: a rubber component including polybutadiene rubber, styrene butadiene rubber, and natural rubber and/or polyisoprene rubber; and a filler, the rubber composition having a combined amount of the natural rubber, polyisoprene rubber, and polybutadiene rubber of 80% by mass or more, an amount of the polybutadiene rubber of 30% by mass or more, and an amount of the styrene butadiene rubber of 0.3-10% by mass, each based on 100% by mass of the rubber component, the filler including 60% by mass or more of silica based on 100% by mass of the filler, the cap tread having cells and/or voids.

The invention relates to a phased rubber composition and tire tread thereof intended for heavy duty service such as for example a truck tire. The phased rubber composition is comprised of the product of blending a first rubber phase comprised of cis 1,4-polybutadiene rubber and reinforcing filler comprised of rubber reinforcing carbon black and a second rubber phase comprised of natural cis 1,4-polyisoprene rubber and reinforcing filler comprised of precipitated silica.

The composition includes 100 parts by weight of a blend of an olefin block copolymer and a rubber as a polymer matrix, 0.02 to 4 parts by weight of a crosslinking agent, and 1 to 6 parts by weight of a foaming agent. The olefin block copolymer and the rubber are present in amounts of 50 to 80% by weight and 20 to 50% by weight, respectively, based on the total weight of the polymer matrix.
