Polymeric substrate including a barrier layer

A polymeric substrate is disclosed. The polymeric substrate comprises a barrier layer including a polymeric material comprising about 50 wt. % or more of at least one polyolefin polymer and 50 wt. % or less of a hydrocarbon resin. The polymeric material exhibits a DTUL of 30° C. or more and a tensile modulus of 500 MPa or more and/or a flexural secant modulus of 500 MPa or more. The barrier layer has a thickness of greater than 200 μm to 6,500 μm. A shaped polymeric article comprising the polymeric substrate is also disclosed.

A polyolefin composition is described which comprises poly-(alpha-olefin) and 10 to 45% by weight, based on the total weight of the composition, of cycloolefin polymer having a glass transition temperature of at least 30° C. This polyolefin composition has domains of cycloolefin polymer in a matrix of poly-(alpha-olefin) in the form of plates.

These polyolefin compositions and the moulded articles made therefrom exhibit excellent barrier properties to gases and vapors and excellent dielectric properties.

Polyethylene films and methods of making the same

A film, preferably, a multi-layered film, including a polymer composition, wherein the polymer composition includes: within a range from 1 wt % to 25 wt % of a cyclic olefin copolymer based on the weight of the polymer composition, and within a range from 75 wt % to 99 wt % (the remainder of material) of a polyethylene based on the weight of the polymer composition, wherein the cyclic olefin copolymer has a glass transition temperature (T.sub.g) of at least 80.degree. C. The films may be used in shrink packaging application.

This invention provides an easy-to-tear resin film. Such easy-to-tear resin film is an easy-to-tear, unstretched resin film composed of a blend of a polyethylene terephthalate-based resin with the second resin having a difference in SP value from the polyethylene terephthalate-based resin of 1.1 to 4.0 (cal/cm.sup.3).sup.0.5. This invention also provides a laminate film 1B for a packaging material comprising the easy-to-tear, unstretched resin film 10 between the inner layer film 20 serving as a heat seal surface and the surface layer film 30 comprising an isophthalic acid-modified polyethylene terephthalate resin having a copolymerization ratio of isophthalic acid component of 0 mol % to 5 mol %.

Disclosed are capacitors containing as dielectric a biaxially oriented film comprising a mixture of polypropylene and cycloolefin polymer, the proportion of cycloolefin polymer in the mixture being between 3 and 18% by weight.

These capacitors are characterized by high temperature resistance and high dielectric strength at room temperature.

The present invention relates to a template for a positioning, fixation, mobilization or immobilization device, wherein the template comprises a sheet of a thermoplastic material, wherein the thermoplastic material comprises between 3.0 and 95.0 wt. % of a poly--caprolactone polymer, preferably a poly--caprolactone homopolymer, and at least 5.0 wt. % of at least one second polymer material with a melting temperature of between 40 and 85 C., wherein the at least one second polymer material is selected from the group of one or more of a polyalkenamer or a thermoplastic linear polyurethane which contains as a polyol a poly -caprolactone or a polyester polyol, wherein the poly--caprolactone polymer and the second thermoplastic material are cross-linked.

A film capacitor is disclosed. In an embodiment a film capacitor includes a film comprising a blend of polypropylene and cyclo-olefin copolymer, wherein the blend includes an amount of at least two thirds by weight of polypropylene, and wherein the cyclo-olefin copolymer includes ethylene in a range of 23 weight % to 27 weight % inclusive and norbornene in a range of 73 weight % to 77 weight % inclusive.
