Material and method for an artificial rock
10519291 · 2019-12-31 ·

The invention relates to modifying synthetic fiber sponge, such as polyester or polyurethane foam, with an epoxy-, polyester, or acrylic-resin to induce an engineered rock product for use as stone replacement in a variety of applications. The method for manufacturing comprises: producing a foam block; shaping the foam block into any regular or irregular shape; weathering the shaped foam block; infusing the weathered foam block with a resin; curing the infused foam block; and finishing the cured foam block. The artificial rock comprises a foam block shaped to resemble a rock, an exterior of the foam block infused with a resin.

Footwear component manufacturing system

A system including an injector, a press, and a robotic conveyance is used to form a physically foamed article of footwear component from a single-phase solution of a polymeric composition and a supercritical fluid. The parameters and features of the system are configured for the formation of the footwear component in an automated manner with enhanced throughput by the system.

ORGANIC POLYMER AEROGELS COMPRISING MICROSTRUCTURES

Organic polymer aerogels, articles of manufacture, and uses thereof are described. The aerogels include an organic polymer matrix and microstructures dispersed within the aerogels, which provides for superior thermal conductivity and mechanical properties.

FREE-FLOWING SOLID ENCAPSULATED DRAG REDUCING ADDITIVES

A process of manufacturing a free-flowing solid encapsulated drag reducing additive comprises: forming a solid drag reducing additive from one or more C.sub.5-20 olefin monomers; dispersing the solid drag reducing additive in a liquid medium to form a dispersion, the liquid medium comprising an encapsulant and a non-solvent; grinding the solid drag reducing additive in the liquid medium under non-cryogenic grinding conditions to form an encapsulated drag reducing additive in a particulate form; and removing the non-solvent by a drying technique including spray drying, flash drying, or rotating disc drying to form the free-flowing solid encapsulated drag reducing additive.

BIODEGRADABLE TEXTILES, MASTERBATCHES, AND METHOD OF MAKING BIODEGRADABLE FIBERS

A masterbatch is disclosed, along with associated methods, and biodegradable filaments, fibers, yarns and fabrics. The masterbatch includes 0.2 to 5 mass % CaCO.sub.3, an aliphatic polyester with a repeat unit having from two to six carbons in the chain between ester groups, with the proviso that the 2 to 6 carbons in the chain do not include side chain carbons, and a carrier polymer selected from the group consisting of PET, nylon, other thermoplastic polymers, and combinations thereof.

Strip for reinforcement of a hose and a method of manufacture thereof

A strip (100) intended for the reinforcement of the wall of high pressure hoses or flexible pipes is presented. The strip (100) comprises multiple wires (102) arranged side-by-side and held together by means of a hardened adhesive (104) originating from a waterborne dispersion. Different embodiments are presented wherein the wires (102) are embedded in the hardened adhesive (104), or wherein only one side of the strip (100) is covered with hardened adhesive (104) or wherein the hardened adhesive (104) is present only between the wires (102) and not on the surfaces (S1, S2) delineating the strip (100). In one preferred embodiment the wires (102) are flattened with the flats being parallel to the surfaces (S1, S2) of the strips (100).

Modified polymer film surfaces for single-use bioreactor bags and biocontainment and methods of forming same

In some embodiments, a polymer film includes a base composition of poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate) and a surface composition comprising hydroxy groups. In some embodiments, a polymer film includes a base layer of a first composition of poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate), a surface layer at a surface of the base layer, and a coating layer of a second composition of a copolymer of glycerol and sebacic acid. The surface layer includes surface hydroxy groups converted from acetate groups of the poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate). The second composition is attached to the surface layer by ester bonds between carboxyl groups of the copolymer and the hydroxy groups. A single-use bioreactor bag includes a polymer film including a base composition of poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate) and a surface composition comprising hydroxy groups. A method of modifying a poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate) film includes converting acetate groups at a first surface of the poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate) film to hydroxy groups.

METHODS OF IMPROVING LOFTING AGENT RETENTION USING BICOMPONENT FIBERS
20240092988 · 2024-03-21 ·

Methods of forming a lightweight reinforced thermoplastic core layer and articles including the core layer are described. In some examples, the methods use a combination of thermoplastic material, reinforcing fibers and bicomponent fibers to enhance retention of lofting agents in the core layer. The processes permit the use of less material while still providing sufficient lofting capacity in the final formed core layer.
