Particles comprising polytetrafluoroethylene and perfluoropolyether
Novel PTFE/PFPE particles and method for making the same are disclosed. The PFPE is absorbed into the PTFE particles. The PTFE/PFPE particles find utility as additives to be combined with other polymers.
BONDING FILMS
Bonding films comprising PEEK-PEoEK copolymers are compatible with polyaryletherketone chemistry thereby providing joined polyaryletherketone polymer parts with high fracture toughness and overall good mechanical properties.
Polymer polyol quality
This invention relates to a process for preparing a stable low viscosity polymer polyol having a solids content of at least about 30% by weight. This process comprise free-radically polymerizing one or more base polyols, one or more pre-formed stabilizers, and one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers in the presence of one or more free-radical polymerization initiators, and one or more polymer control agents; in which the process is restarted after being stopped by (I) restarting the feed of base polyol and the initiator; (II) continuing the base polyol and initiator feed until the total feed amounts to at least 5% of the total reactor volume; and (III) restarting the feed of the ethylenically unsaturated monomers in which the ratio of monomers to total feed is ramped up to its final value over a period of not less than 25% of the reactor residence time. This process is particularly suitable for restarting the process of production after any planned or unplanned reactor shutdown.

DOWNHOLE TOOLS HAVING SUPERHYDROPHOBIC SURFACES
A method of producing hydrocarbon from a subterranean formation comprises: disposing an article in a well penetrating a subterranean formation, the article having a surface coated with a hierarchical superhydrophobic coating or the article being a stand-alone hierarchical superhydrophobic membrane; contacting the article with a flow of a water-based fluid and an oil-based fluid; selectively impeding the flow of the water-based fluid; and allowing the production of the oil-based fluid.
INTERMEDIATE TRANSFER MEMBERS
An intermediate transfer member that includes a hydroxyl terminated poly(oxetane) based fluorinated polyether optionally crosslinked with an aminoplast resin.
THERMOPLASTIC UNIDIRECTIONAL TAPE WITH DISCONTINUOUS COATING LAYER
Described herein are unidirectional tapes and methods of making thereof. The unidirectional tapes disclosed herein include a unidirectional fiber layer and discontinuous coating layer that includes a plurality of discontinuous coating regions on at least one side of the unidirectional fiber layer.
Method for producing contact lenses with durable lubricious coatings thereon
The invention is related to a method for producing silicone hydrogel contact lenses with a stable lubricious hydrogel coating thereon. A method of the invention comprises forming a plasma-reactive hydrophilic polymer hybrid base coating having reactive functional groups on a silicone hydrogel contact lens and heating the silicone hydrogel contact lens with the hybrid base coating in an aqueous solution of a water-soluble and thermally crosslinkable hydrophilic polymeric material to form a stable lubricious hydrogel coating thereon.
Cell size enlargers for polystyrene foams
Polymer extruded foams that contain cell size enlarging agents are provided. The inventive composition includes a foamable polymer material, at least one blowing agent, and at least one cell size enlarging agent. The blowing agent utilized in the inventive composition is preferably selected such that the composition has a zero ozone depletion and low global warming potential. Examples include any inorganic blowing agents and/or non-hydrogenated chlorofluorocarbons (non-HCFCs). The foamable polymer material is preferably polystyrene. The cell size enlarging agent may be chosen from ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and/or ethylene methyl acrylate (EMA). The cell size enlarging agent permits the formation of a foam with large cell sizes that are desirable to achieve a high insulation value and to optimize the physical properties of the foamed product. In addition, the cell size enlarging agent provides an increased cell size to the foamed product without detracting from the physical and thermal properties.
Carboxymethylcellulose polyethylene glycol compositions for medical uses
Compositions and method of manufacturing carboxypolysaccharides (CPS) including carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and polyethylene glycols (PEGs) are provided where the PEG is a PEG-epoxide covalently linked to the CPS. In certain embodiments, the PEG attaches to only one CPS, forming a decorated CPS. In other embodiments, the functional groups of a bi-functional PEG molecule (PEG diglycidyl ether) are attached to different CPSs, thereby forming a covalently cross-linked composition. Such compositions can be used as space-filling materials, load-bearing materials, anti-adhesion compositions, drug delivery vehicles, and lubricants of tissues and medical instruments.
