A nonlinear optical dye includes a compound represented by the general formula (1) below. ##STR00001## In the above general formula (1), each of X.sup.1, X.sup.2, X.sup.3 and X.sup.4 independently represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having a carbon number of 1 to 6, a halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, a nitro group, a cyano group, or a methylsulfonyl group. In the present invention, it is preferred that each of X.sup.1, X.sup.2, X.sup.3 and X.sup.4 independently represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having a carbon number of 1 to 6, or a halogen atom. In the present invention, it is also preferred that the nonlinear optical dye has a dipole moment of 2.1 D or less and a maximum absorption wavelength within a range of 315 to 360 nm.

C.I. pigment yellow 74 (insoluble AZO pigment), and coloring composition using same

A C.I. Pigment Yellow 74 as an insoluble azo pigment is provided. This C.I. Pigment Yellow 74 is crystalline particles. The ratio (26.6/11.7) of a diffraction intensity of a peak at 26.6 to a diffraction intensity of a peak at 11.7 in terms of Bragg angle (20.2) as measured by powder X-ray diffraction using CuK -radiation is 0.85 to 1.12, and the average primary particle size is 20 to 130 nm. The use of this C.I. Pigment Yellow 74 as a colorant in a coloring composition enables to provide the coloring composition with excellent dispersibility and good particle size stability and storage stability compared with conventional pigments. The use of this coloring composition enables the formation (recording) of images having excellent clarity and transparency of such high levels that have not been achievable by conventional technologies.

The invention relates to small, conjugatable, orthogonal and tunable fluorophores for imaging of small bioactive molecules. The invention further relates to processes for the preparation of the compounds, and uses of the compounds in therapeutic, diagnostic, surgery and analytical applications. The invention provides a compound of formula (I), a derivative or a salt thereof. Wherein X is selected from the group consisting of NH, O, S, SeR5R6, CR7R8; R1 is selected from the group consisting of amines, alcohols, thiols, thiophenols, selenols, selenophenols and aryl groups; R2 and R3 are independently H or a halogen; R4 tis either H, nitro or cyano; R5 is either absent or methyl or oxygen; R6 is either absent or methyl or oxygen; and R7 and R8 are independently selected from the group consisting of linear or cyclic alkyl groups containing halogen, amino, cyano or carboxylic ester substituents, and alkyl aryl groups. ##STR00001##
