PROCESS FOR TREATING A WOOD SUBSTRATE AND WATER-BASED WOOD TREATMENT SOLUTION AND KIT ASSOCIATED THEREWITH
20210276219 · 2021-09-09 ·

The present description relates to processes, water-based wood treatment solutions and kits for treating wood substrates so as to obtain colored (or altered) wood substrates, where mineral compounds that impart the color or other desirable characteristic(s) to the wood substrates are formed in the colored or altered wood substrates. The mineral compounds formed comprise the products of a chemical reaction which occurs between the wood substrate, a metal salt, and an oxygen source.

Process and formula for producing a simulated weathered wood finish
11124668 · 2021-09-21 ·

A process and formula for producing a simulated weathered wood finish calls for a mixture including water, acrylic, (2-butoxy-1-methylethoxy)propan-2-ol and (2-methoxymethylethoxy)propanol. A quantity of sodium bicarbonate is added to the mixture in a ratio of between 1 part to 5 parts of the sodium bicarbonate to 100 parts of the mixture. This creates a solution which is applied to the surface of wood to create an aging effect on the wood.

Methods of preparing porous wood products for painting and finishing
10968360 · 2021-04-06 · ·

Methods of preparing porous wood products for painting or finishing are described. The methods comprise applying to a porous wood product a UV-curable coating and curing by UV light the top UV curable coating to 70% to 95% cure, preferably 85% to 95% for spray-applied top UV curable coatings to produce a partially cured porous wood product. The methods typically further include the step of sanding the surface of the partially cured porous wood product and painting or staining, for example with a water-based or solvent-based stain or paint.

Tinting water-borne and solvent-borne paints and stains with powdered colorants

A point-of-sale custom color system for tinting base paints and stains includes an array of powdered colorants, including at least white, green, blue and red colorants, which can be used to tint water-borne paints and stains. When tinting solvent-borne base paints or stains, a synergist containing one or more cosolvents, dispersing agents or surfactants is added to or is a part of the solvent-borne base paint or stains, and enables effective tinting using the powdered colorants.

Wetting and anti-foaming agent

A wetting agent according to Formula (I): ##STR00001## wherein R.sup.1 is selected from a branched alkyl group or linear alkyl group or a cycloaliphatic group or an aromatic group, each having 6 to 15 carbon atoms; R.sup.2 is selected from hydrogen, methyl, or ethyl; R.sup.3 is selected from hydrogen, methyl, or ethyl; R.sup.4 is selected from hydrogen, methyl, or ethyl; R.sup.5 is selected from methyl or ethyl; x ranges from 0 to 5; y ranges from 0 to 10; z ranges from 1 to 10; with the proviso that when x ranges from 1 to 5, R.sup.2 is different from R.sup.3; and with the proviso that when x=0, R.sup.3 is different from R.sup.4. The wetting agent also imparts anti-foam properties to aqueous solutions while reducing surface tension.
