STARCH AND CARBOXYLIC ACID BINDER COMPOSITIONS AND ARTICLES MADE THEREWITH

Fiber-containing composites are described that include woven or non-woven fibers, and a binder that holds the fibers together. The binder may include the reaction product of a starch and a polycarboxylic acid. The starch has a weight average molecular weight that ranges from 1×10.sup.6 Daltons to 10×10.sup.6 Daltons. The fiber-containing composite has an unaged tensile strength of greater than 4.0 and an aged tensile strength greater than 3.0. Also described are methods of making the fiber-containing composites. The methods may include applying a binder composition to fibers to form coated fibers, measuring a moisture content of the coated fibers, and curing the coated fibers in a curing oven to form the fiber-containing composite. The binder composition may include a starch having a weight average molecular weight that ranges from 1×10.sup.6 Daltons to 10×10.sup.6 Daltons, and a polycarboxylic acid.

METHOD FOR PREPARING AN ADHESIVE TAPE OR MOLDING MASS

A polymerizable composition which may be used as an adhesive mass in a method for preparing an adhesive tape or as molding mass in a method for preparing molded articles is provided. The polymerizable composition contains: A) a thermal cationic initiator, or B) a combination of a cationic photoinitiator and a thermal free-radical initiator for inducing the polymerization of the cationically polymerizable monomers in such an amount that the heat energy released during polymerization is sufficient for cleaving the thermal initiator. The adhesive mass is curable via a local impulse a) of thermal energy orb) of thermal energy and/or radiation energy through frontal polymerization; or the molding mass is initially prepared by mixing all components and then molded into the desired shape, whereafter its frontal polymerization is induced by a local impulse a) of thermal energy and/or b) of radiation energy in order to prepare a cured molded article.

A laminate comprises a wicking fabric and a polymeric film adhered to both sides of the wicking fabric, wherein the wicking fabric comprises a plurality of holes, the polymeric films on both sides of the wicking fabric are fused together at each hole, and the laminate functions as an air barrier when measured in accordance with ASTM E2178-13, and allows the passage of liquid water as per ASTM E2273-18.

A resin composition includes 20 parts by weight to 45 parts by weight of a phosphorus-containing bismaleimide and 100 parts by weight of a thermosetting resin, wherein the phosphorus-containing bismaleimide has a structure of Formula (I); the thermosetting resin is selected from a vinyl-containing polyphenylene ether resin, a maleimide resin, a polyolefin resin, a prepolymer of maleimide resin, and a combination thereof. The resin composition may be used to make a prepreg, a resin film, a laminate or a printed circuit board, and at least one of the following properties can be improved, including flame retardancy, outgassing properties, arc resistance, copper foil peeling strength, X-axis coefficient of thermal expansion, glass transition temperature and water absorption rate.

BIO-BASED POLYMERS FROM RAW LIGNOCELLULOSIC BIOMASS

Disclosed herein is a bio-based copolymer comprising in polymerized form (i) at least one polymerizable bio-based monomer containing one phenolic hydroxyl group which has been derivatized to provide at least one polymerizable functional group which is an ethylenically unsaturated functional group (such as a [meth]acrylate group), where the precursors of the polymerizable bio-based monomers are derived from raw lignin-containing biomass, and (ii) at least one ion-conducting co-monomer other than the bio-based monomer. Also disclosed herein are binders comprising the bio-based copolymer, electrodes comprising the binder, polymer electrolytes comprising the bio-based copolymer and an electrochemical device comprising an electrode in electrical contact with a polymer electrolyte, wherein at least one of the electrode and the polymer electrolyte comprises the bio-based copolymer.

A curable fluoropolyether adhesive composition which comprises, each in a specific amount, (A) a straight-chain polyfluoro compound having two or more alkenyl groups per molecule and having a perfluoropolyether structure in the main chain, (B) a fluorine-containing organohydrogen siloxane having, per molecule, a perfluoroalkyl group, a perfluorooxyalkyl group, a perfluoroalkylene group or a perfluorooxyalkylene group and two or more SiH groups, and not having an epoxy group or an alkoxy group directly bonded to a silicon atom, (C) a platinum-group metal catalyst, and (D) a cyclic organopolysiloxane having, per molecule, an SiH group and an epoxy group and/or a trialkoxysilyl group bonded to a silicon atom via a divalent hydrocarbon group optionally containing an oxygen atom, and not having fluorine in molecule, and a cured product of which having a thickness of 2 mm shows a transmittance to light with a wavelength of 500 nm of 80% or higher. This curable fluoropolyether adhesive composition is capable of providing a cured product having good light transmittance and high adhesiveness to glass materials.

Photocurable adhesive composition

Provided is a method of manufacturing a liquid crystal panel employing a photocurable adhesive composition which causes no damage to adherends during bonding and which, when used in bonding rugged adherends, can bond the adherends without forming a gap therebetween. The photocurable adhesive composition of the inventive method comprises (A) 100 parts by mass of a urethane (meth)acrylate oligomer having a weight-average molecular weight of 20,000 to 100,000, (B) 5 parts to 70 parts by mass of a phenoxy resin, and (C) 0.1 parts to 10 parts by mass of a photopolymerization initiator. The uncured composition has a loss tangent (loss modulus/storage modulus) of less than 1 at 25° C. and the temperature at which the loss tangent of the uncured composition reaches 1 or more is 80° C. or less.
