PRESSURE-SENSITIVE ADHESIVE

Provided is a method of producing a pressure-sensitive adhesive containing a cured product of a curable composition containing a crosslinkable silicon group-containing organic polymer and an adhesion-imparting resin as a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer; curing of the curable composition does not proceed when heated during production, i.e., the curable composition has excellent stability when heated, and the crosslinking reaction of the curable composition proceeds by some sort of trigger. The pressure-sensitive adhesive contains, as a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, a cured product of a curable composition containing (A) a crosslinkable silicon group-containing organic polymer, (B) an adhesion-imparting resin, (C) a SiF bond-containing silicon compound, and (D) a photobase generator.

TACKIFIER

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a tackifier which is superior in adhesiveness under high temperature (heat-resistant holding power) and rough surface adhesiveness to conventional tackifiers produced using rosin acids having a tricyclic skeletal structure. This tackifier is a reaction product of a rosin (A) with an alcohol (B), the rosin (A) containing a rosin acid (a) having a bicyclic skeletal structure. Preferably, the bicyclic skeletal structure is a labdane skeletal structure.

HMPSA incorporating a plasticiser made from a renewable raw material

1) An HMPSA composition comprising: from 20% to 50% by weight of a composition of styrene block copolymers; from 35% to 65% by weight of one or more tackifying resins; and from 7% to 25% by weight of a plasticizer consisting of a composition comprising a stand oil of a vegetable oil. 2) A multilayer system comprising: an adhesive layer (A) consisting of said HMPSA composition; a printable support layer (B) adjacent to the adhesive layer (A); and a nonstick protective layer (C), adjacent to the adhesive layer (A). 3) The use of said multilayer system for the manufacture of self-adhesive articles.

Farnesene-based tackifying resins and adhesive compositions containing the same

A tackifying resin includes a farnesene-based polymer having monomeric units derived from a farnesene monomer and one or more optional comonomers selected from the group consisting of dienes, branched mono-olefins, and vinyl aromatics and has a softening point greater than or equal to 80 degrees Celsius. A method of making the farnesene-based polymer includes combining a farnesene monomer and a solvent and optionally adding one or more comonomers selected from the group consisting of dienes, branched mono-olefins, and vinyl aromatics, to provide a monomer feed, and polymerizing the monomer feed by combining the monomer feed with a Friedel-Crafts catalyst in a vessel. The tackifying resin may be combined with an elastomer to form a hot melt adhesive composition.

Rosin ester tackifiers for pressure-sensitive adhesives

Water-dispersible adducted rosin esters, a process for making them, and their use in aqueous tackifier dispersions for pressure-sensitive adhesives are disclosed. Reaction of a rosin with a polyol gives a rosin ester intermediate, which is then reacted with a dienophile to produce an adducted rosin ester. The adducted rosin ester is further esterified with a polyethylene glycol having an Mw<700 to produce the water-dispersible adducted rosin ester. Esterification with the low-molecular-weight PEG imparts good water dispersibility to the adducted rosin ester while maintaining compatibility with other tackifier components. Combination of the aqueous tackifier dispersions with polymer emulsions, particularly acrylics, gives pressure-sensitive adhesives that deliver good loop tack and peel properties compared with commercial alternatives, even when the coat weight is reduced by 20%.
