Drag reducing agents

A drag reducing agent has a core comprising a polyolefin; and a temporary container encapsulating the core. The temporary container contains a container material, which includes an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, an ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer, a polyvinylpyrrolidone, an ethylene vinylpyrrolidone copolymer, a vinylpyrrolidone vinyl acetate copolymer, a polyvinyl acetate, a polyvinyl alcohol, a polyethylene oxide, a polyethylene glycol, polyvinylidene chloride, a polysaccharide or its derivative, or a combination comprising at least one of the foregoing. A largest dimension of the drag reducing agent is greater than about 1,000 microns.

Provided are: a lubricating oil composition for transmissions having a long fatigue life and a low viscosity, which contains a base oil and an olefin copolymer and in which the mass-average molecular weight of the olefin copolymer is 5,000 or more and 30,000 or less, the hydrodynamic radius of the olefin copolymer is 1.00 nm or more and 5.00 nm or less, and the content of the olefin copolymer based on the total amount of the composition is 1.0% by mass or more and 8.0% by mass or less; and a production method for the composition, a lubricating method using a lubricating oil composition for transmissions, and a transmission.

Silicone modified lubricant

A silicone modified lubricant includes a Group I, II, III, IV or V base oil in combination with a minor amount of a silicone oil. Further, the lubricant includes a dispersant such as a dispersant olefin copolymer which maintains the silicone oil dispersed in the base oil. The silicone oil reduces the surface tension of the lubricant thereby reducing power loss. Preferably the lubricant formation has a surface tension less than 28 mN/m, making it particularly suitable for dip lubrication systems.

Silicone modified lubricant

A silicone modified lubricant includes a Group I, II, III, IV or V base oil in combination with a minor amount of a silicone oil. Further, the lubricant includes a dispersant such as a dispersant olefin copolymer which maintains the silicone oil dispersed in the base oil. The silicone oil reduces the surface tension of the lubricant thereby reducing power loss. Preferably the lubricant formation has a surface tension less than 28 mN/m, making it particularly suitable for dip lubrication systems.

Grease composition and hub unit

A grease composition includes a base oil, a thickener, and an additive. The base oil contains a synthetic oil. The thickener contains a compound having a urea group. The additive contains a phosphoric compound, a calcium-based compound, and a hydrocarbon-based wax. A hub unit includes the grease composition enclosed therein.

Disclosed is a lubricating oil composition containing a base oil, a viscosity index improver, a molybdenum-based friction modifier, a boron-containing dispersant, and at least two extreme-pressure additives selected from a sulfur-based extreme-pressure additive, a phosphorous-based extreme-pressure additive and a sulfur/phosphorus-based extreme-pressure additive, or a sulfur/phosphorus-based extreme-pressure additive. The base oil is a synthetic oil having a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. of 3 mm.sup.2/s or more and 10 mm.sup.2/s or less, the viscosity index improver is a resin having a number average molecular weight (Mn) of 1,000 or more and 10,000 or less, the mass ratio of boron atoms (B) contained in the boron-containing dispersant to molybdenum atoms (Mo) contained in the molybdenum-based friction modifier, [(B)/(Mo)] is 1 or more and 5 or less, and the mass ratio of sulfur atoms (S) to phosphorus atoms (P) contained in the extreme-pressure additive(s), [(S)/(P)] is 10 or more and 20 or less.
