Power transmitting fluids with improved materials compatibility

A power transmitting fluid comprises a major amount of a lubricating oil and a minor amount of an additive composition. The additive composition comprises: (a) a friction modifier of the formula: ##STR00001## (b) an oil-soluble phosphorus compound; and, (c) an ashless dispersant;
wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 may be the same or different and represent linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbyl groups having from 8 to 20 carbon atoms. Z represents a polyoxyalkylene segment or a polyalkoxylated alkyl amine segment. The friction modifiers provide the fluid with improved fluoroelastomer seal compatibility and enhanced copper corrosion compatibility.

A composition of aqueous emulsion is provided that is environmentally friendly, halogen free and solvent free. The composition is compatible with various types of insulating materials and may be applied after the wire or cable is cooled and also by spraying or submerging the wire or cable in a bath. The composition contains lubricating agents that provide lower coefficient of friction for wire or cable installation and continuous wire or cable surface lubrication thereafter.

Corrosion-Inhibiting Compositions

The invention relates to a composition comprising a) at least one N-methyl-N-acylglucamine of formula (I), wherein R.sup.1 represents a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon chain with 7 to 21 carbon atoms, one or more organic acids of formula (II) and/or the salts thereof, R.sup.2—COOM, wherein R.sup.2 represents a linear or branched alkyl group or a linear or branched mono- or poly-unsaturated alkenyl group with 5 to 29 carbon atoms, and M represents hydrogen or one or more cations, wherein the cations are present in charge-equalizing amounts, and c) one or more alkanolamines of formula (III), wherein NR.sup.1R.sup.2R.sup.3R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 represent hydrogen, a linear or branched alkyl group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group with 5 to 7 carbon atoms, a linear or branched hydroxyalkyl group with 2 to 5 carbon atoms and 1 or 2 hydroxy groups or a hydroxyether group with 2 to 6 carbon atoms, with the provision that at least one of the groups is a hydroxyalkyl group or a hydroxyether group.

Low ash lubricants with improved seal and corrosion performance

A lubricant composition of (a) an oil of lubricating viscosity; (b) a dispersant comprising the condensation product of a carboxylic functionalized polymer with an aromatic amine having at least 3 aromatic rings and at least one primary or secondary amino group; and (c) an overbased metal detergent comprising an oil-soluble neutral metal salt component and a metal carbonate component, provides good seal and corrosion performance. Desirably, the total amount of neutral metal salt component in the lubricant composition is at least about 0.75 percent by weight and the sulfated ash level of the lubricant composition is less than about 1.1 percent.

Lubricant compositions, core-shell nanoparticles, and related methods are disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, a lubricant composition includes a plurality of core-shell nanoparticles. The nanoparticles include a core, a first shell disposed on the core, and a second shell disposed on the first shell. The first shell is formed from a siliceous material and the second shell is formed from a hydrophobic material. The first and second shells form functional coatings that reduce wear and friction of parts lubricated with the lubricant composition.
