Block processing configurations for base stock production from deasphalted oil

Systems and methods are provided for block operation during lubricant and/or fuels production from deasphalted oil. During block operation, a deasphalted oil and/or the hydroprocessed effluent from an initial processing stage can be split into a plurality of fractions. The fractions can correspond, for example, to feed fractions suitable for forming a light neutral fraction, a heavy neutral fraction, and a bright stock fraction, or the plurality of fractions can correspond to any other convenient split into separate fractions. The plurality of separate fractions can then be processed separately in the process train (or in the sweet portion of the process train) for forming fuels and/or lubricant base stocks. The separate processing can allow for selection of conditions for forming lubricant fractions, such as bright stock fractions, that have a cloud point that is lower than the pour point.

Distillation of used motor oil with distillate vapors

A process and apparatus for re-refining used lubricating oil (ULO) having thermally unstable additives such as zinc compounds. ULO is mixed with a superheated distillate which may be a recycle stream, an outside stream, or combination, then charged to a vacuum flash or fractionator, to produce an overhead vapor and a residual fraction comprising additives and/or decomposition products thereof. Overhead vapor is condensed to yield a liquid lubricant boiling range product. Superheating may occur in a fired heater, heat exchanger or combination. Mixing of superheated fluid and ULO may occur in a pipe in turbulent flow and/or an in line mixer. Energy efficiency is improved by heat exchanging ULO feed with vapor or liquid product streams. An aromatic rich and thermally stable outside stream such as FCC LCO can be readily superheated. Recovered lubricant boiling range material can be recycled, used as a lube stock or for FCC feed.

METHOD FOR REGENERATION OF USED LUBRICATING OILS

A method for the regeneration of used lubricating oils to produce lubricant base oils includes the steps of (a) removing resin and impurities by distillation, (b) catalytic oxidation treatment and (c) adsorption process. The method can efficiently reduce the color, metal ions, and sulfur content under mild reaction conditions at low cost and obtain high yield of regenerated oil above 85 wt. %.

Processing method and purification system

A processing method includes processing a metal wire rod using an emulsion lubricant that includes an oil and a nonionic surfactant at an oil-to-nonionic surfactant ratio of 1:0.3 to 0.9 (in mass ratio). The method may include purifying the emulsion lubricant after being used for processing the metal wire rod while maintaining the oil-to-nonionic surfactant ratio of 1:0.3 to 0.9 (in mass ratio) and then reusing the purified emulsion lubricant to process the metal wire rod.

High viscosity lubricants with polyether

Disclosed is a method of treating a used hydrocarbon lubricant of ISO Viscosity Grade 46 or higher comprising oxidation products that adversely affect lubricant performance. The hydrocarbon lubricant has a Group II hydrocarbon oil or Group III hydrocarbon oil, optionally one or more lubricant additives, and an amount of varnish. The hydrocarbon lubricant is free of zinc-containing additives. The method comprises adding to the used hydrocarbon lubricant from about 2 percent by weight to about 20 percent by weight of a polyhydroxy polypropylene oxide homopolymer that has a hydroxyl number of from about 12 mg KOH/g to about 58 mg KOH/g as measured according to ASTM D4274.

A process for production of cylinder oil comprises providing used oil, providing fresh cylinder oil, and blending the used oil with the fresh cylinder oil. The used oil has a lower TBN value than the fresh cylinder oil. A process for the operation of an internal combustion engine comprises preparing cylinder oil as described and using the cylinder oil in the internal combustion engine. An apparatus for the preparation of a cylinder oil comprises a blending means for blending used oil and fresh cylinder oil. The blending means is in flow communication with at least one compartment of an internal combustion engine that comprises used oil or at least one storage compartment comprising used oil, at least one storage compartment for fresh cylinder oil, and at least one cylinder of an internal combustion engine. Used oil and fresh cylinder oil are used for the preparation of cylinder oil.

A liquid composition for use in purifying an oil contains a polar polymer, a surface active hydrotrope/solubilizer, and a co-tenside. The polar polymer may be a polyalkylene glycol, such as polyethylene glycol. The hydrotrope/solubilizer may be an anionic sulfonic acid, a phosphate ester-based substance or a non-ionic surfactant from the poly-glycoside family. The co-tenside may be at least one amphoteric co-surfactant, such as sodium caprylimino dipropionate.
