A method for improving friction control in an engine or other mechanical component lubricated with a lubricating oil.
Lubricants with calcium-containing detergents and their use for improving low-speed pre-ignition
A lubricating oil composition and method of operating a boosted internal combustion engine. The lubricating oil composition includes greater than 50 wt. % of a base oil, one or more overbased calcium sulfonate detergent(s) and one or more overbased calcium phenate detergent(s). The calcium, boron, nitrogen, and amount of soap are maintained within certain ratios, and the total base number contribution from all detergents to the lubricating oil composition is less than 4.2 mg KOH/g of the lubricating oil composition, as measured by the method of ASTM D-2896. The lubricating oil composition and method may be effective to reduce low-speed pre-ignition events in a boosted internal combustion engine lubricated with the lubricating oil composition relative to capable lubricating oil compositions.
A MIXED COMPLEX SOAP BASED GREASE COMPOSITION AND METHOD FOR PREPARATION THEREOF
The present invention relates to a mixed complex soap based grease composition comprising a lubricating base oil; a saponifiable material; a metal oxide; an alkali/alkaline metal hydroxide; and a complexing acid. The present invention also discloses a single-step, open kettle, energy-efficient process which gives smooth textured zinc-alkali/alkaline earth metal mixed complex grease composition with relatively low thickener content while still maintaining desired consistency. The zinc-alkali/alkaline earth metal mixed complex grease composition is tailor made to have dropping point in a range of 180? C. to 300? C. comparable to lithium and lithium complex grease composition, have inherent oxidation stability, extreme pressure, anti-wear properties, and water resistance properties. The zinc-alkali/alkaline earth metal mixed complex grease composition shows excellent additive response good mechanical stability, low temperature properties, pumpability, and corrosion resistance.
LOW VISCOSITY LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION
Provided is an internal combustion engine lubricating oil composition having a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity; a combination of alkaline earth metal alkylhydroxybenzoate detergents; at least about 50 to about 500 ppm of boron from a boron containing detergent; a molybdenum containing compound in an amount to provide the lubricating oil composition from about 100 to about 1500 ppm molybdenum; a ZnDTP compound; where the composition comprises magnesium in an amount from about 100 to about 800 ppm, and calcium in an amount from about 500 to about 2000 ppm.
Motorcycle engine lubricant
The present invention relates to lubricant compositions for motorcycle engines where the crankcase lubricant is also used to lubricate a wet clutch. The lubricant compositions contain antimony dithiocarbamates in combination with one or more ash-free friction modifiers.
METHOD OF LUBRICATING AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
The invention relates to a method of lubricating an internal combustion engine comprising supplying to the engine a lubricating composition comprising: an oil of lubricating viscosity, 2.3 wt % to 4 wt % of a dispersant package, wherein the dispersant package comprises: a borated succinimide dispersant obtainable by an ene reaction of a polyalkylene with an acylating agent to form an intermediate, reacting the intermediate with an aminoalcohol or amine to form a dispersant, and reacting the dispersant with a borating agent to form a borated succinimide dispersant; and a non-borated succinimide dispersant obtained by a Diels-Alder reaction. The ratio of non-borated succinimide dispersant to borated succinimide dispersant is 90:10 to 20:80, and the borated succinimide has 0.2 wt % to 1.3 wt % boron on an oil-free basis of the dispersant.
