Composition and Method of Manufacturing Calcium Sulfonate and Calcium Magnesium Sulfonate Greases Using a Delay After Addition of Facilitating Acid
A method of making an overbased calcium sulfonate or calcium magnesium sulfonate grease using one or more delay periods between the addition of at least a portion of a facilitating acid, such as DDBSA, and at least a portion of the next subsequently added ingredient. The delay period may be a temperature adjustment delay or a holding delay period. An overbased calcium sulfonate or calcium magnesium sulfonate grease composition comprises 0.5%-5% of a facilitating acid, allows for a reduced amount of overbased calcium sulfonate below 22%, and allows for a reduced amount of calcium hydroxyapatite to provide 10-25% of hydroxide equivalent basicity of the total hydroxide equivalent basicity due to calcium hydroxyapatite and added calcium hydroxide, while maintaining a high dropping point.
ALKYLATION OF METALLOCENE-OLIGOMER WITH ISOALKANE TO MAKE HEAVY BASE OIL
A process to make an isoalkane alkylate base oil, comprising: a. oligomerizing an olefin feed having a carbon number from 3 to 6 using a metallocene catalyst to make an unsaturated olefin oligomer; and b. alkylating an isoalkane feed with the unsaturated olefin oligomer in the presence of an acidic alkylation catalyst, and without any addition of hydrogen, to make an alkylate product comprising the isoalkane alkylate base oil having a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. greater than 10 mm.sup.2/s, a VI higher than 80, and a bromine index less than 1000 mg Br/100 g.
Composition and Method of Manufacturing Calcium Magnesium Sulfonate Greases Without a Conventional Non-Aqueous Converting Agent
An overbased calcium magnesium sulfonate grease composition and method of making such grease without using any conventional non-aqueous converting agents, such as hexylene glycol, as a pre-conversion ingredient. The addition of magnesium sulfonate as an ingredient prior to conversion appears to act as a new, non-conventional converting agent, resulting in greases with improved thickener yield and excellent dropping point.
Composition and Method of Manufacturing Calcium Magnesium Sulfonate Greases
An overbased calcium magnesium sulfonate grease composition and method of manufacture comprising both overbased calcium sulfonate and overbased magnesium sulfonate in a ratio range of 60:40 to 100:1. The grease is made according to any known method for making an overbased calcium sulfonate grease by using the overbased magnesium sulfonate in addition to the overbased calcium sulfonate. A portion of the magnesium sulfonate may be added prior to conversion and another portion after conversion, with or without one or more delay periods between the addition of water or other reactive ingredient and the addition of magnesium sulfonate. The grease can be made using calcium hydroxyapatite and/or added calcium carbonate as calcium containing bases for reacting with complexing acids, a non-aqueous converting agent delay method, added alkali metal hydroxide, or any combination thereof. The grease has a high dropping point and reduced thickener yield.
Basic ashless additives
A lubricant composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and an N-hydrocarbyl-substituted γ-aminoester or γ-aminothioester, wherein the N-hydrocarbyl substituent comprises a hydrocarbyl group of at least 3 carbons atoms, with a branch at the 1 or 2 position of the hydrocarbyl chain, provides exhibits basicity and good seal performance.
PROCESS FOR PRODUCING NAPHTHENIC BRIGHT STOCKS
A process for producing naphthenic bright stocks from low quality naphthenic crude feedstocks. The naphthenic bright stocks produced by the process have improved low temperature properties at high yields based on feedstock.
DISPERSANT VISCOSITY MODIFIERS WITH SULFONATE FUNCTIONALITY
A lubricating composition includes an oil of lubricating viscosity and an oil-soluble dispersant viscosity modifier, which includes an olefin-based polymer backbone and at least one pendent functional group. Each of the at least one pendent functional group is independently attached to the olefin-based polymer backbone by a linking group. The at least one pendent functional group includes a sulfonate moiety.
LUBRICANT FOR ROLLER BEARINGS, ROLLER BEARING AND METHOD FOR PRODUCTION AND REPAIR OF ROLLER BEARINGS
A lubricant for a rolling-element bearing includes a conventional lubricant as a base lubricant and at least one first additive, wherein the first additive includes muscovite, and the lubricant includes a proportion of muscovite that is between 3% and 5%. Also a method of lubricating a rolling-element bearing using the lubricant and a method of repairing a rolling-element bearing using the lubricant.
Additive Tackifier Agent for Water-Soluble Lubricants
A composition for an aqueous tacky lubricant, specifically targeted towards increasing lubricant retention to the moving components of chainsaws. More specifically, the composition includes a novel additive composition for environmentally-neutral lubricants. The ideal function of the composition would be to increase the adhesive qualities of an aqueous lubricant without compromising the coolant and lubricant roles of such a substance. To accomplish this, the composition includes an additive compound, that is made of a linear anionic polyamide and a cationic surfactant. The reaction between the linear anionic polyamide and the cationic surfactant creates a viscoelastic tackifier that helps the lubricant to cling to a moving chain thus preventing the lubricant from flinging off the chain when in motion. In other words, the additive compound is a tackifier agent, presented as novel both as an independent composition and in addition to extant lubricants.
SLIDING SYSTEM
[Technical Problem] An object is to provide a sliding system which can achieve both the reduced friction and the enhanced wear resistance by means of a novel combination of a sliding film and a lubricant oil.
[Solution to Problem] The sliding system of the present invention comprises: a pair of sliding members having sliding surfaces that can relatively move while facing each other; and a lubricant oil interposed between the sliding surfaces facing each other. At least one of the sliding surfaces comprises a coating surface of a crystalline chromium carbide film. The lubricant oil contains an oil-soluble molybdenum compound that has a chemical structure of a trinuclear of Mo. When the chromium carbide film as a whole is 100 at %, the chromium carbide film contains 40-75 at % of Cr. The chromium carbide film in contact with the lubricant oil containing a Mo-trinuclear appears to react with the Mo-trinuclear adsorbed during the sliding to generate a layered structural body (boundary film) similar to MoS.sub.2 on the surface, thereby developing a considerably low friction property.
