Method to recover free fatty acids from fats and oils
Methods for producing oil from fats and oils having high free fatty acid content are provided. In the method, fats and oils are treated with a mixture including an alcohol to result in a low-free fatty acid oily phase and an alcohol phase. The mixture may also include an alkali. The alcohol may be a monohydric alcohol and an aqueous alcohol, such as an aqueous alcohol having a concentration of at least about 15% alcohol-by-weight. The low-free fatty acid phase may include oil and at least one impurity. The low-free fatty acid phase may be cooled, and the oil may be separated from the at least one impurity. Fats and oils amenable to such a method may include, but are not limited to, waste fats, waste oils, high acid grease, high acid tallow, sorghum wheat oil, and corn oil, such as corn oil produced at an ethanol production plant.

PROCESS OF EXTRACTING OIL FROM THIN STILLAGE
The present invention relates to processes of recovering oil after liquefaction and/or from thin stillage and/or syrup/evaporated centrate from a fermentation product production process by adding a thermostable protease to the whole stillage, thin stillage and/or syrup.
FILTER AIDS FOR BIODIESEL AND EDIBLE OIL FILTRATION AND METHODS AND USES OF THE FILTERING AIDS
A filter aid composition may include an acid-treated composite silicate. The composite silicate comprises a silicate substrate and a precipitated silica. A method for making a filter aid composition may include providing a silicate substrate, precipitating a silica onto the silicate substrate to form a composite silicate, and treating the composite silicate with an acid to form an acid-treated composite silicate. A method for filtering a non-aqueous liquid may include providing a non-aqueous liquid for filtering and filtering the non-aqueous liquid through an acid-treated composite silicate. The composite silicate may include a silicate substrate and a precipitated silica. A filter aid may include an acid-treated composite diatomite. The acid-treated composite diatomite may include a diatomite substrate and a precipitated silica gel coating. The precipitated silica may be a precipitated ilica gel.
Method for recovering crude tall oil
The present invention relates to a method for recovering crude tall oil from a soap which method comprises the steps of: determining a correlation between the crude tall oil content and the water content of the soap, determining an amount of acid and water needed in order to separate an optimal amount of crude tall oil from the soap dependent on the crude tall oil content of the soap, measuring the water content of the soap, adding the optimal amount of acid and water to the soap, mixing the added acid and water with the soap whereby an acidulated soap is formed and the crude tall oil is separated and recovering the separated crude tall oil from the acidulated soap.
Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) formulations
Provided herein are compositions comprising eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and polar lipids (e.g., glycolipids and phospholipids), and which do not contain any docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) or esterified fatty acids.
Process for recovering crude tall oil
A process and apparatus for recovering crude tall oil are disclosed. Acidulation of a crude tall oil soap stream generates a spent acid stream that comprises lignin and entrained crude tall oil. By subjecting the spent acid stream to dissolved gas flotation, a lignin phase comprising entrained crude tall oil can be recovered and causticized, resulting in recovery of most of the crude tall oil that was present in the spent acid stream. A clarified spent acid stream is also generated, which can be treated with caustic and utilized for a soap washing process that integrates easily into the overall CTO recovery process. The apparatus comprises a crude tall oil acidulation unit, a dissolved gas flotation unit, a causticizing unit, and a soap separation unit. The inventive process marries dissolved gas flotation, a well-known water treatment process, with causticization of a recovered lignin phase, a step known from batch acidulation, to improve overall tall oil recovery from a continuous process.

Natural Oil Metathesis Compositions and Methods
A metathesized natural oil composition comprising (i) a mixture olefins and/or esters, or (ii) a metathesized natural oil, is disclosed. The metathesized natural oil composition has a number average molecular weight in the range from about 100 g/mol to about 150,000 g/mol, a weight average molecular weight in the range from about 1,000 g/mol to about 100,000 g/mol, a z-average molecular weight in the range from about 5,000 g/mol to about 1,000,000 g/mol, and a polydispersity index of about 1 to about 20. The metathesized natural oil composition is metathesized at least once.
Methods for the separation or purification of vitamin E, tocopherols and tocotrienols from lipid mixtures
This invention generally relates to the isolation of molecules exhibiting vitamin E activity, e.g. tocopherols and/or tocotrienols, from mixed lipid feedstocks. In alternative embodiments, the inventions provides methods and industrial processes for isolating vitamin E molecules, including tocopherols and/or tocotrienols, from mixed lipid feedstocks by combining the feedstock with an alcohol and reacting the mixture at or above the critical point of the alcohol, and then optionally separating the products into discreet fractions.
