Centrifugation device and methods for isolation of biomass from algae mixture and extraction of oil from kitchen residue

A centrifugation device includes a feeding tube defining a longitudinal axis, and a plurality of centrifugal plates extending longitudinally and radially around the feeding tube and rotatable about the longitudinal axis. The centrifugal plates have coarse surfaces coated with one or more layers of polymer material. A centrifugation tank is disposed coaxially with the feeding tube and around the centrifugal plates. A sidewall of the tank is provided with micro/nano filters. Methods for isolation of algal biomass from an algae and aqueous mixture, and extraction of oil from kitchen residue and/or microalgae are also disclosed.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR CLOSED LOOP SOLVENT EXTRACTION AND PURIFICATION
20170002292 · 2017-01-05 ·

Provided herein are systems and methods for the facile extraction and purification of oils from plant material, including cannabis and hemp. The systems and methods herein are versatile, and may utilize a wide range of solvents to extract oils from a variety of plant-based material. Further, the provided systems and methods are closed loop, reducing the loss solvent and decreasing the risk of safety concerns such as human exposure to solvent chemicals or explosion of volatiles. In some embodiments, the systems and methods remove impurities from the extracted oils, for example waxes or other precipitates, and provide a higher purity and higher quality extract.

Removal of fatty acid from esterified propoxylated glycerin

An esterified propoxylated glycerin process is improved by the incorporation of a vacuum distillation step whereby unreacted fatty acids are removed in a form suitable for direct reuse in a further esterification. The esterified propoxylated glycerin produced is low in color and has a low content of free fatty acid, making it suitable for use as a reduced calorie fat substitute in various food products.

Method of producing industrial corn base oil from a fermentation byproduct of a corn ethanol production process

A method of producing industrial corn base oil from a raw corn oil byproduct of a corn ethanol production process. The raw corn oil byproduct of the corn ethanol production process is first washed to separate water-soluble products from raw corn oil, then the free fatty acid in the resulting corn oil is neutralized using potassium hydroxide, and a polymeric quaternary biocide is added in a demulsification step, followed by vacuum dehydration of the demulsified corn oil, degumming of the dehydrated corn oil using citric acid, removal of red color from the oil, and final polishing.

CHEMICAL PRETREATMENT PROCESS FOR WASTE FAT, OIL AND GREASE

A chemical pretreatment process for waste fat, oil and/or grease (FOG) includes three working sections: first, subjecting the waste FOG to esterification reaction to prepare a fatty acid methyl ester; second, subjecting a crude product obtained from the esterification reaction and a catalyst to liquid-liquid phase separation through a chromatograph device to obtain a crude product solution in a form of oil phase and a catalyst solution in a form of aqueous phase, respectively separating the aqueous phase and the oil phase through evaporation systems to obtain a crude product, catalyst and methanol and water, storing temporarily the crude product in a storage tank, and recycling the catalyst back to the reactor; and finally, refining the methanol aqueous solution through a distillation tower to obtain high-purity methanol, which is returned to the reactor for recycling, and introducing a resulting wastewater to a storage tank.

METHOD FOR DETERMINING A PARAMETER OF A COMPOSITION OF NATURAL ORIGIN FOR DETERMINING THE MOST SUITABLE TREATMENT FOR THE REMOVAL OF HETEROATOMS FROM SAID COMPOSITION

The present invention concerns a method for determining a parameter representative of the quality of a composition of natural origin, this parameter making it possible to determine the most appropriate heteroatom removal treatment for processing this composition, in particular with a view to its hydrotreatment for the manufacture of renewable fuels. The invention also concerns a process for reducing the heteroatom content of this type of composition, in particular for manufacturing a renewable fuel.

Systems and methods for reducing rendered fats pour point

Systems and methods to reduce pour point (PP) temperatures of fat-based compositions for use in transportation fuels. In one or more embodiments, methods and systems reduce the pour point of rendered fats using biologically-derived plant oils for effectively transporting the blended fat based compositions over long distances, thereby advantageously decreasing the heating and mixing requirements needed to maintain the compositional temperature above the pour point. In certain embodiments, the fat based composition comprises rendered animal fats, such as tallow in combination with distilled corn oil (DCO).
