The quaternized compositions are advantageously sulfonated or sulfitated. In one aspect, the ester derivative of the C.sub.10-C.sub.17 monounsaturated acid or octadecene-1,18-dioic acid is a lower alkyl ester. In other aspects, the ester derivative is a modified triglyceride made by self-metathesis of a natural oil or an unsaturated triglyceride made by cross-metathesis of a natural oil with an olefin. The quaternary ammonium, betaine, and sulfobetaine compositions and their sulfonated or sulfitated derivatives are valuable for a wide variety of end uses, including cleaners, fabric treatment, hair conditioning, personal care (liquid cleansing products, conditioning bars, oral care products), antimicrobial compositions, agricultural uses, and oil field applications.

Composition containing highly unsaturated fatty acid or alkyl ester thereof and a method for producing the same
PROBLEM To provide a composition comprising highly enriched PUFA or its alkyl esters while containing fatty acid esters of 3-MCPD at adequately low concentrations and to provide an efficient method for producing the composition. MEANS FOR SOLVING A composition that contains fatty acids or fatty acid alkyl esters as its major component, the composition containing highly unsaturated fatty acid or alkyl ester thereof, wherein the proportion of the highly unsaturated fatty acid in the constituent fatty acids of the composition is 50 area % or more and wherein the concentration of 3-MCPD as found upon analyzing the composition by American Oil Chemists' Society official method Cd 29b-13 assay A is less than 1.80 ppm.
Reaction system for producing fatty alkyl esters using a liquid-film reactor operated countercurrentwise
This invention discloses a reaction system for producing fatty-acid alkyl esters using liquid film reactors, with countercurrent flow scheme based on the alcoholysis of fats and oils. Reaction system comprises a descending film reactor using semi-structured packing for generating interfacial area. It is fed through the bottom with oil or fat, and with a mixture containing alcohol, glycerol and catalyst through an intermediate stage. Products are a mixture of fatty-acid alkyl esters, alcohol and catalyst and alcohol, glycerol and catalyst, exit via the top and the bottom of the reactor, respectively. Volumetric packing fraction is between 2% and 50%, reaction temperature from 25 to 180° C., molar ratio alcohol to oil between 3:1 and 10:1, and CH3OH, NaOH, KOH, or their mixtures (0.5% to 3% based on the oil mass flow rate). Conversion and yield in a single reaction step are greater than 99.7% and 99.9%, respectively.
Blown and stripped biorenewable oils
A method for producing a blown and stripped biorenewable oil is provided. The method may include the steps of (a) heating a biorenewable oil to at least 90° C.; (b) exposing an oxygen containing stream to the heated oil to produce a blown oil having a viscosity of at least 40 cSt at 40° C.; (c) adding a base metal catalyst to the blown oil; and (d) stripping the blown oil from step (c) until the stripped oil has an acid value of from about 1 mg KOH/g to about 20 mg KOH/g; wherein the stripped oil from step (d) has a flash point of at least 220° C.

PROCESS FOR INTEGRATED PRODUCTION OF RENEWABLE FUELS AND CHEMICALS
The present disclosure provides a versatile process for producing valuable renewable hydrocarbons from triglyceride containing feedstock. The triglyceride containing feedstock is first split to provide a mixture containing fatty acids, glycerol and water, from which a phase separation provides an oily phase, and an aqueous phase. The oily phase containing fatty acids is subjected to fractionation, whereby specific fractions may be refined to products with controlled hydroprocessing. Products may contain paraffinic renewable aviation fuel components, paraffinic renewable base oil, renewable paraffinic diesel fuel components, renewable paraffinic technical fluid, or any combination thereof.
