Article of footwear having a sole structure with a fluid-filled chamber

An article of footwear has an upper and a sole structure secured to the upper. The sole structure includes a chamber that encloses a pressurized fluid. The chamber includes subchambers laterally extending in a medial to lateral direction of the bladder. A bottom surface of the chamber may include at least one bond that laterally extends across the bottom surface of the chamber from one side edge to another side edge of the chamber in the medial to lateral direction. The bond may cooperate with an indentation in the bottom surface that separates one subchamber from an adjacent subchamber. A diameter of the subchambers may decrease in a direction from a heel region of the bladder to a forefoot region of the chamber.

In one aspect, methods of making a knitted shoe component are described herein. In some embodiments, a method comprises knitting one or more fibers to form a toe portion; knitting one or more fibers to form a first wing portion; and knitting one or more fibers to form a second wing portion. The first and second wing portions extend from the toe portion and are knittingly connected to the toe portion. The method further comprises reducing the lateral separation between the first and second wing portions from an initial separation distance to a knitting separation distance such that the wing portions can be knitted together to form a seamless heel portion of the shoe component, including using a series of stitch transfer, racking, and knitting steps.

The retaining device may have a plurality of openings, and each of the plurality of spike devices can be at least partially inserted into a corresponding one of the plurality of openings to attach each of the plurality of spike devices to the retaining device.

Articles of footwear comprising an additively manufactured sole. In some embodiments, the article of footwear may comprise a sole, an upper, and a joining element coupling the sole to the upper. In some embodiments, the sole may comprise a three-dimensional mesh with a ground-facing portion and a ledge formed on an upper side of the mesh. The ledge may comprise a continuous side surface that is coupled to the joining element. In some embodiments, the sole may comprise an undulating lower side comprising a plurality of bumps and a plurality of valleys positioned between respective bumps. In some embodiments, the sole may comprise a continuous ground-facing rim formed on a perimeter portion of a lower side of the sole.

The method of forming the fused article of footwear includes fitting an untrimmed welt ring to a cassette configured to hold the untrimmed welt ring spaced away from an outsole midsole unit of the fused article of footwear, aligning the cassette to a sole holder, positioning an upper in contact with the untrimmed welt ring to form a cavity and injecting plastic into the cavity defined by the untrimmed welt ring, the outsole midsole unit, the upper and the cassette to form a slip sole and fuse the untrimmed welt ring, the outsole midsole unit and the upper together.
