Multi-Well Plates for Creation of High-Density Arrays of Compartmentalized Cell Cultures for Usage in High Capacity Applications
The disclosure relates to multi-well plates having fluidic connections between neighboring wells that are useful to produce a cell culture substrate and compliant with American National Standards Institute of the Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (ANSI/SLAS) microplate standards
Liquid filtration and pump system
A liquid filtration system comprising a syringe pump comprising a gas chamber and a movable plunger, wherein the gas chamber has an aperture at a first end and the plunger forms a seal within the internal walls of the chamber; a liquid chamber having two openings, the openings positioned at opposite ends of the chamber and the first opening connected to the aperture of the gas chamber; a bioreactor in fluidic communication with the second opening of the liquid chamber; a filter arranged to filter liquid passing between the bioreactor and the liquid chamber, the filter comprising a permeate outlet for removing filtered liquid; wherein, in use, the plunger may be moved in a reciprocating motion causing a corresponding movement of gas which drives liquid alternately between the liquid chamber and the bioreactor such that liquid passes through the filter and filtered liquid may be removed via the permeate outlet.
BIOLOGICAL FILTRATION SYSTEMS AND CONTROLLING METHODS THEREOF
The embodiments of the disclosure provide a biological filtration system and a controlling method for the biological filtration system. The biological filtration system for filtering a solution in a bioreactor, comprises: a filter device having a top end and a bottom end, one of the top end and the bottom end being in fluid communication with the bioreactor for filtering the solution in the bioreactor; a liquid chamber in fluid communication with the other one of the top end and the bottom end for storing a solution in the filter device; a positive pressure pump, in fluid communication with the liquid chamber, for driving a solution to flow from the liquid chamber to the bioreactor; and a negative pressure pump, in fluid communication with the liquid chamber, for driving a solution to flow from the bioreactor to the liquid chamber.
Methods of preparing personalized blood vessels
The present disclosure relates to methods of preparing personalized blood vessels, useful for transplantation with improved host compatibility and reduced susceptibility to thrombosis. Also provided are personalized blood vessels produced by the methods and use thereof in surgery.
Integrated process for ethanol separation from fermented broth for low temperature applications
The present invention provides to a process for recovery of an organic compound (i.e. Ethanol, propanol, butanol, Acetone, iso-propyl alcohol) from a fermented broth which is produced from different fermentation technologies. The present invention particularly relates to an integrated process for ethanol separation from the fermentation broth using integrated vapor compressing unit (turbofans), evaporator (falling film) and a broth stripper column (vacuum distillation system). The process is operated under low temperature for the separation and recovery of the organic compound (particularly ethanol) from the fermented broth containing live microbes typically below or at 50° C. to ensure the activity of the microbes in the broth recycle. Again, the activity of the microbes is further ensured by maintaining the residence time of the microbe containing broth outside the Fermentor is less than or equal to 10 minutes.
Photobioreactor with annular chambers
A photobioreactor includes one or more annular chambers concentrically positioned about a central axis, and an algae slurry contained within the one or more annular chambers.
Heat Exchanger System with Flexible Bag
A bag assembly for use with a heat exchanger includes a flexible bag having of one or more sheets of polymeric material, the bag having a first end that bounds a first compartment and an opposing second end that bounds a second compartment, a support structure being disposed between the first compartment and the second compartment so that the first compartment is separated and isolated from the second compartment. A first inlet port, a first outlet port, and a first drain port are coupled with the flexible bag so as to communicate with the first compartment. A second inlet port, a second outlet port, and a second drain port are coupled with the flexible bag so as to communicate with the second compartment.
DUTY CYCLE FOR CELL CULTURE SYSTEMS
An automated cell culture system with one or more pumps configured to operate on a duty cycle prevents excess heat generation, allowing the cell culture system to operate inside a conventional incubator without overheating. The duty cycle involves switching the pump between on and off modes. By running pumps for a short period of time and then shutting them off, less heat is produced. To account for the reduced pumping time during the cycle, the pump can be run at a higher flow rate while it is on, so that the average flow rate over the course of the cycle is not reduced. Systems of the invention employ duty cycles in which the on-cycle is shorter than the off-cycle, and particularly where the on-cycle is less than 20% of the duration of the entire duty cycle.
IN AND RELATING TO INSTRUMENTS FOR PROCESSING CELLS
Disclosed herein is an instrument suitable for processing cells for example culturing, concentrating or washing said cells, the instrument comprising: a housing for accommodating mechanical elements including at least one fluid pump; and a disposable processing kit complementary to the mechanical elements within the housing and comprising a fluid circuit including a fluid reservoir and plural fluid paths capable of carrying fluid flow caused by said pump(s), the instrument further including a mechanism for determining the quantity, or change in quantity of the fluid in the reservoir resulting from said fluid flow, the instrument yet further comprising a controller operable to control at least the pump and operable to perform a fault determination process, which includes the steps of determining the expected flow rate of said pump(s) calculated from the speed of the pump(s) and comparing that expected flow with the change in quantity of the fluid in the reservoir as determined by said mechanism.
