Systems and methods for stillage fractionation
11905502 · 2024-02-20 · ·

Systems and methods for fractionating whole stillage from an ethanol production facility are provided. Whole stillage undergoes a separation of its liquid portion (thin stillage) from the solid portion (fiber cake). In some embodiments, the solids and liquids in whole stillage may be separated utilizing a screening centrifuge. The fiber cake may be dried to generate a high fiber animal feed. The thin stillage may be provided to a three-phase separator for separation into an oil emulsion, an aqueous clarified stillage, and a protein paste. The protein paste may be dried to generate a high protein animal feed with greater than about 45% protein content. The clarified thin stillage is condensed to yield a syrup with greater than around 60% solids. The oil emulsion is subjected to a pH adjustment to liberate the oil from the emulsion, which is then separated.

A method for delivering a processing solution includes providing a concentrated processing solution in a bioprocess container, the concentrated processing solution being produced at a first site. The method also includes combining the concentrated processing solution with a biopolymer containing solution produced in a bioreactor at a second site different from the first site. In some embodiments, the processing solution is a buffer for processing products of cells cultured in a bioreactor. A system and a pharmaceutical production facility for carrying out the method is also provided.

Bioprocess and microbe engineering for total carbon utilization in biofuel production

Some aspects of this invention provide methods and bioreactors for converting a carbon source into a lipid. In some embodiments, lipid production is carried out in an aerobic fermentor and carbon dioxide generated during lipid production is converted into a carbon substrate by CO.sub.2 fixation in an anaerobic fermentor. In some embodiments, the carbon substrate generated by CO2 fixation is used as the carbon source for lipid production, thus achieving total carbon utilization in lipid production.

MICROBIAL ELECTRO-PHOTOSYNTHESIS

Methods and apparatus for growing photosynthetic organisms lacking Photosystem II (PSII) function using externally supplied electrons shuttled into the organism using redox mediators to improve photosynthetic output and to produce and recover chemicals of interest. By removing PSII, all PAR photons are funneled toward Photosystem I, thereby significantly increasing the theoretical photon utilization efficiency for CO.sub.2 fixation, energy storage and the capacity to synthesize valuable chemicals. Additional genetic modification can be performed to insert or enhance specific metabolic pathways to generate products of commercial interest.

OPTICAL CELL CULTURE MONITORING AND ANALYTE MEASURING SYSTEM

Methods, systems, and devices for non-invasive measurement of cell cultures are described that provide for remote monitoring of cell status. The system includes a cell culture vessel, at least one monitoring layer, at least one measurement device, and a communication component. The cell culture vessel may include at least one cell culture chamber configured for cell growth and for closed-system operation. The monitoring layer is external to the at least one cell culture chamber. In some cases, the communication component is configured to transmit data from the monitoring layer to a remote location.

Method and Device for Producing Organic Compounds from Biogas

Various embodiments include a method for producing hydrocarbons, the method comprising: producing carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide with addition of oxygen in a first reaction unit; fermenting the carbon monoxide, the carbon dioxide, and hydrogen in a second reaction unit; adding biogas provided from a biogas system and oxygen from an electrolyzer as reactants to the first reaction unit; and adding hydrogen from the electrolyzer as a reactant to the second reaction unit.

Device and Method for the Sequestration of Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide

The invention relates to a device and to a method for sequestering atmospheric carbon dioxide using at least one air capture module in conjunction with a bioreactor equipped with an autotrophic microorganisms.

System and method for producing a sugar stream

An improved dry grind system and method for producing a sugar stream from grains or similar carbohydrate sources and/or residues, such as for biochemical production. In particular, after saccharification and prior to a sugar conversion process, a sugar/carbohydrate stream is removed from a saccharified stream. The sugar/carbohydrate stream includes a desired Dextrose Equivalent (DE) where DE describes the degree of conversion of starch to dextrose can be produced, with the such sugar stream being available for biochemical production, e.g., alcohol production, or other processes. In addition, the systems and methods also can involve the removal of certain grain components, e.g., corn kernel components, including protein and/or fiber. Sugar stream production occurs on the front end of the system and method.

DEVICES AND METHODS FOR BIO-PROCESSING CELLULAR SAMPLES
20190345430 · 2019-11-14 ·

The present disclosure relates to completely closed systems suitable for bio-processing of cellular samples, for example peripheral blood samples used for immunotherapy applications, and related methods of use. The systems are not open to the air, thus allowing for sterile sample processing and transfer of the sample throughout the entirety of bio-processing. Each component of the disclosed systems contains a unique identifier, allowing for traceability of the sample as it proceeds through the various steps involved in bio-processing. The identifier ultimately traces the sample back to the patient from which the sample was derived. Certain embodiments provide a unique freezing bag for long-term storage of cellular samples. The freezing bag has a unique identifier that allows for easy traceability and retrieval of a bio-archived sample and at least two ports, one for sample testing, another for sterile docking to a device that allows for delivery of its contents to a patient.
