Spent stillage remaining after the fermentation of a feedstock for ethanol production may be processed to recover, use, and/or recycle the constituent components of the stillage. Stillage may be mixed, heated, and held at a desired temperature for a period of time. The stillage may then be cooled and treated with an enzyme. The enzymatically treated stillage may be emulsified with oil and water, and then permitted to settle into discrete layers. Individual layers may then be processed. A system and method for separating stillage after the fermentation process of ethanol production has concluded are provided.

VIRAL VECTOR PURIFICATION APPARATUS AND METHOD

A method for clarifying a bioprocess fluid comprising particles suspending in a cell culture fluid is provided. The method includes providing a cell culture suspended in an unclarified bioprocess fluid in a bioreactor. A chromatography affinity resin is added directly to the unclarified bioprocess fluid. The chromatography affinity resin binds a biological target. The unclarified bioprocess fluid with the bound biological target is passed into an assisted gravity settler.

In a pre-processing system, a state in which a sample dispensing probe 20a and a syringe pump 81 communicate with each other through a channel 91 and a state in which the sample dispensing probe 20a and a culture tank 301 communicate with each other through the channels 91, 93, and 94 can be switched by operation of the three-way valves 82 and 83. For this reason, the liquid sample in the culture tank 301 can be automatically discharged from the sample dispensing probe 20a without requiring the user to directly sample the liquid sample. As a result, in the pre-processing system, the user's manual sampling work can be omitted, and the user's work can be simplified.

ANAEROBIC PHOTOBIOREACTOR AND METHOD FOR BIOMASS CULTIVATION, WASTEWATER TREATMENT, NUTRIENTS RECOVERY, ENERGY PRODUCTION AND HIGH-VALUE PRODUCTS SYNTHESIS

The present invention is related to an anaerobic photobioreactor and a method for active biomass cultivation, wastewater treatment, nutrients recovery, energy production and high-value products synthesis. Phototrophic bacteria are cultured in the anaerobic photobioreactor lighted with solar or artificial irradiation where certain light wavelengths are selectively discarded with a light selector installed on the top of the photobioreactor. In this light-based process wastewater treatment and resources recovery, like nutrients and high-value bioproducts (fertilizers, polymers and proteins) present in wastewater are performed simultaneously. Cultured biomass is treated by anaerobic digestion for biofuel production, including optative hydrolytic pre-treatment, and/or valuable bioproducts can be obtained in a downstream process.

A fermentation and aging apparatus and a method for controlling a fermentation and aging apparatus are provided. The fermentation and aging apparatus may include a tank in which a fluid, such as water may be accommodated, a fermentation container forming a space in which the fluid discharged from the tank may be accommodated, a pump disposed in a channel between the tank and the fermentation container to supply the fluid accommodated in the tank to the fermentation container, a flow rate control valve configured to control a flow rate of the fluid discharged from the tank, a heater configured to heat the fluid discharged from the tank, a temperature sensor configured to measure a temperature of the fluid passing through the heater, and a controller configured to control a degree of opening of the flow rate control valve based on the measured temperature.

System for the 3D construction of biologically derived materials, structures, and parts

This system combines 3D printing technology with artificially modified cells for production of nonliving biomaterials. A 3D printer deposits a 3D array of bioengineered cells in the shape of a selected product. The cells are programmed to produce biomaterials in regulated amounts. The cell array deposits biomaterials onto a substrate. The cells and substrate are then removed, leaving a finished, nonliving product with microscale structure and precision.
