Plasma treatment of an elastomeric material for adhesion
Elastomeric components, such as a shoe outsole, are treated with a plasma application to clean and activate the elastomeric component. The application of plasma is controlled to achieve a sufficient surface composition change to enhance adhesion characteristics while not adversely physically deforming the elastomeric component. The plasma treatment is applied to increase carbonyl functional group concentrations within an altered region of the elastomeric component to within at least a range of 2%-15% of carbon atomic percentage composition. The cleaning and activation is controlled, in part, by ensuring a defined height offset range is maintained between the elastomeric component and the plasma source by a generated tool path. The elastomeric component may then be adhered, with an adhesive, to another component.
Transport apparatus for conveying shoe vamp
A transport apparatus is for conveying a shoe last along a conveying direction, and includes a rail unit, a transport device and a transfer device. The rail unit is divided into process, bridge and transfer regions. The transport device is movably mounted to the rail unit, is movable in the process and bridge regions, and includes a gripper for gripping the shoe last. The transfer device is movably mounted to the rail unit, is movable in the bridge and transfer regions, and includes a holding member for holding the shoe last. When the gripper is in the bridge region, the holding member is operable to hold the shoe last and transfer the shoe last from the gripper to the transfer region.

BOOTIES AND FOOTWEAR ASSEMBLIES COMPRISING SEAMLESS EXTENSIBLE FILM, AND METHODS THEREFOR
Waterproof, breathable socks, booties, shoe inserts, and footwear assemblies containing the shoe inserts are provided. The booties and shoe inserts may include a laminate comprising a seamless extensible film, such as a polyurethane film, and at least one textile. The bootie is suitable for a range of sizes and shoe shapes. The bootie may shrink to fit, or, alternatively, be stretched to fit, an asymmetrical last having a desired size to form a shoe insert. A bootie having a seamless extensible film eliminates the need to have multiple sizes of shoe inserts correlating to particular shoe sizes. In embodiments where the polyurethane film is seamless and continuous, the shoe insert eliminates the need for a waterproof seam tape, which is conventionally used to make shoe inserts waterproof. Methods of forming the socks, booties, and shoe inserts are also provided.
