Method for treating a substrate made of animal fibers with solid particles and a chemical formulation
The invention discloses a method for treating an animal substrate comprising: agitating the moistened animal substrate with a treatment formulation and a solid particulate material in a sealed apparatus wherein the treatment formulation comprises a tanning agent or a tannery process agent. The method can comprise applying the tanning agent or tannery process agent to the animal substrate wherein at least some of the agent so applied originates from the treatment formulation. There is also disclosed an animal substrate obtained by the method. The treatment formulation can be aqueous.

BIO-DEGRADABLE COMPOSITION AND/OR PROBIOTIC BIOCHEMICALS AND METHODS OF USE IN LEATHER TANNING PROCESSES
Use of probiotic technology to support tanners to reduce waste and increase the value of by-products reducing the need of synthetic chemicals, improving the quality of effluents and reducing the carbon footprint to the environment. Probiotics or beneficial microorganisms are used to obtain biochemicals through a controlled fermentation of natural ingredients. The result of the process is a consortium of metabolites including viable probiotic microorganisms with properties very similar to traditional leather auxiliaries extensively needed during leather production, eliminating or reducing the need for use of toxic chemicals and compositions.
Compositions for Improving the Environmental Impact of Textiles and Leather
The subject invention provides environmentally-friendly compositions and methods for enhancing production of textiles and leather. In certain embodiments, the methods of the subject invention comprise incorporating the application of a biological amphiphilic molecule into a textile or leather-making process to reduce chemical usage, reduce water usage, reduce water pollution and/or provide an added benefit to the process. In certain embodiments, the methods of the subject invention comprise substituting a chemical surfactant with a biological amphiphilic molecule in one or more steps involved in textile or leather-making process that would traditionally utilize a chemical surfactant.
Method And System For Tagging Leather Or Hides Treated With Biocide And Identifying Same
A method of treating leather or hide is provided whereby a biocide and one or more detectable tags are applied to a piece of leather or hide. The detectable tag(s) can be detected to indicate one or more pieces of information, such as that the biocide has been applied to the piece of leather or hide and/or other information. Information about the biocide and the tannery that applied the biocide or other information can be discerned from detecting the detectable tag or from one or more of the detectable tags if used. A system for tagging leather or hide and applying a biocide are also provided as are methods and systems for detecting the tags.
PROBIOTIC COMPOSITION AS LEATHER AUXILIARY AGENTS AND USE THEREOF
The present invention describes a fully bio-degradable probiotic composition and its method of use as leather tanning auxiliary to offer a green technology to reduce waste and increase the value of by-products reducing the need of synthetic chemicals and improving the quality of effluents. Probiotics or beneficial microorganisms are used to obtain biochemicals through a controlled fermentation of natural ingredients. The result of the process is a consortium of metabolites used in conjunction with probiotic bacteria wherein product has properties very similar to traditional leather auxiliaries extensively used during the leather making process, such as wetting, dispersing, degreasing and solubilizing agents. Therefore, they have clear applications not only in the beam house operations, but also in wet-end and finishing.
Leather production using waste liquids
A process for leather production from a raw animal hide includes the steps of pre-soaking, soaking, unhairing and liming, re-liming, deliming and bating, pickling and tanning, degreasing, re-tanning, neutralizing, dyeing and fatliquoring, and washing the processed hide. Waste liquid is collected from at least one of the foregoing steps is recycled to at least one of the foregoing steps. The collected waste liquid can be recycled to the same step, to a different step, or to two of more steps in the process.
