Provided are an apparatus for manufacturing a compound powder, a method of manufacturing an iron-boron compound powder by using the apparatus, a boron alloy powder mixture, a method of manufacturing the boron alloy powder mixture, a combined powder structure, a method of manufacturing the combined powder structure, a steel pipe, and a method of manufacturing the steel pipe The method of manufacturing the boron alloy powder mixture includes: preparing a mixed powder including a boron iron alloy powder and a target powder; heat-treating the mixed powder to boronize at least a portion of the target powder and de-boronize at least a portion of the boron iron alloy powder, thereby de-boronizing the boron iron alloy powder to reduce the melting point of the boron iron alloy powder.
Coating of bulk metallic glass (BMG) articles
Exemplary embodiments described herein relate to methods and apparatus for forming a coating layer at least partially on surface of a BMG article formed of bulk solidifying amorphous alloys. In embodiments, the coating layer may be formed in situ during formation of a BMG article and/or post formation of a BMG article. The coating layer may provide the BMG article with surface hardness, wear resistance, surface activity, corrosion resistance, etc.
BMG parts having greater than critical casting thickness and method for making the same
The embodiments described herein relate to BMG articles with high bulk having all dimensions greater than the critical dimension. Exemplary BMG article can include at least one bulk component and/or one or more fixation elements configured on surface of the bulk component or inserted into the bulk component. Other embodiments relate to methods of making the BMG articles by thermo-plastic-formation of BMG alloy materials.
Permanent magnet, and motor and generator using the same
A permanent magnet of an embodiment includes: a composition represented by a composition formula: R(Fe.sub.pM.sub.qCu.sub.rCo.sub.1-p-q-r).sub.z, where R is at least one element selected from rare-earth elements, M is at least one element selected from Zr, Ti, and Hf, and relations of 0.3≦p≦0.4, 0.01≦q≦0.05, 0.01≦r≦0.1, and 7≦z≦8.5 (atomic ratio) are satisfied; and a structure including a cell phase having a Th.sub.2Zn.sub.17 crystal phase, and a cell wall phase existing to surround the cell phase. An average magnetization of the cell wall phase is 0.2 T or less.
Permanent magnet, and motor and generator using the same
A permanent magnet of an embodiment includes: a composition represented by a composition formula: R(Fe.sub.pM.sub.qCu.sub.rCo.sub.1-p-q-r).sub.z, where R is at least one element selected from rare-earth elements, M is at least one element selected from Zr, Ti, and Hf, and relations of 0.3≦p≦0.4, 0.01≦q≦0.05, 0.01≦r≦0.1, and 7≦z≦8.5 (atomic ratio) are satisfied; and a structure including a cell phase having a Th.sub.2Zn.sub.17 crystal phase, and a cell wall phase existing to surround the cell phase. An average magnetization of the cell wall phase is 0.2 T or less.
Bulk nickel-phosphorus-boron glasses bearing manganese
The disclosure is directed to Ni—P—B alloys bearing Mn and optionally Cr and Mo that are capable of forming a metallic glass, and more particularly metallic glass rods with diameters at least 1 mm and as large as 5 mm or larger. The disclosure is further directed to Ni—Mn—Cr—Mo—P—B alloys capable of demonstrating a good combination of glass forming ability, strength, toughness, bending ductility, and corrosion resistance.
Magnesium-based hydrogen storage material and method for preparing the same
A method for preparing a magnesium-based hydrogen storage material, includes: a Mg—Ce—Ni family amorphous alloy is prepared by a rapid cooling process; the amorphous alloy is pulverized, so as to obtain a amorphous powder; the amorphous alloy is activated, so as to obtain a MgH.sub.2—Mg.sub.2NiH.sub.4—CeH.sub.2.73 family nanocrystalline composite; the abovementioned composite is carried out a hydrogen absorption and desorption cycle, then the composite is placed in a pure Ar atmosphere for passivation, finally, the passivated composite is oxidized, so as to obtain a MgH.sub.2—Mg.sub.2NiH.sub.4—CeH.sub.2.73—CeO.sub.2 family nanocrystalline composite.
Joining of metallic glasses in air
A method of joining a bulk metallic glass to a second similar or dissimilar material in an air environment. The method includes the steps of: a) removing an oxide layer on at least a portion of a surface of a first bulk metallic glass during thermoplastic forming of the first bulk metallic glass in a supercooled liquid region, wherein the removing of the oxide layer on the at least the portion of the surface creates a fresh surface that is at least substantially free of oxides and/or contaminants; and b) joining the fresh surface of the first bulk metallic glass to a second material.
Nickel-based brazing foil and process for brazing
Disclosed is an amorphous, ductile brazing foil with a composition consisting essentially of Ni.sub.restCr.sub.aB.sub.bP.sub.cSi.sub.d with 2 atomic percent≦a≦30 atomic percent; 0.5 atomic percent≦b≦14 atomic percent; 2 atomic percent≦c≦20 atomic percent; 0 atomic percent≦d≦14 atomic percent; incidental impurities≦0.5 atomic percent; rest Ni, where c>b>c/15 and 10 atomic percent≦b+c+d≦25 atomic percent. Also disclosed is amorphous, ductile Ni-based brazing foil having a composition consisting essentially of Ni.sub.restCr.sub.aB.sub.bP.sub.cSi.sub.dC.sub.eX.sub.fY.sub.g wherein a, b, c, d, e, f, and g are numbers such that 2 atomic percent≦a≦30 atomic percent; 0.5 atomic percent≦b≦14 atomic percent; 2 atomic percent≦c≦20 atomic percent; 0 atomic percent≦d≦14 atomic percent; 0 atomic percent≦e≦5 atomic percent; 0 atomic percent≦f≦5 atomic percent; 0 atomic percent≦g≦20 atomic percent; wherein incidental impurities are present, if at all, in amounts≦0.5 atomic percent; wherein rest indicates that the balance of the composition is Ni; wherein c>b>c/15; wherein 10 atomic percent≦b+c+d≦25 atomic percent, wherein X is one or more of the elements Mo, Nb, Ta, W and Cu; and wherein Y is one or both of the elements Fe and Co. Also disclosed are methods for making and using these brazing foils, and brazed objects produced therefrom.

A material design device derives the optimal solution for a design condition satisfying a desired material property. A design condition setting unit for setting a specified range of a design condition of a material to be designed. A comprehensive prediction point generation unit generates a plurality of comprehensive prediction points within the specified range set by the design condition setting unit. A design condition-material property table stores data sets in which each point of the comprehensive prediction points is associated with a material property value calculated by inputting the comprehensive prediction points generated by the comprehensive prediction point generation unit, to a learned model. A required property setting unit sets a specified range of a required property of the material. A design condition extraction unit extracts, from the design condition-material property table, a data set satisfying the required property set by the required property setting unit.
