METHOD FOR PRODUCING COMPLEX FORMED CASTINGS AND CASTING CONSISTING OF AN AICu ALLOY
A method for the practice-oriented, operationally reliable production of castings of an AlCu alloy which consists of Cu, Mn, Zr, Fe, Si, Ti, V, remainder Al and unavoidable impurities. A melt which has been melted according to this alloy formula is kept at temperature for several hours and then mixed vigorously at least once. Thereafter, the melt is cast in portions into the respective casting which is then solution annealed at temperature for several hours. The casting is quenched from the solution anneal temperature to a maximum temperature of 300° C., at a specified cooling rate which the casting passes through during quenching. The casting is then artificially aged for several hours at 150-300° C. Finally, the casting is cooled to room temperature.
Electric Guitar Strings of Magnetic Copper Alloys
Guitar strings made of a magnetic copper-nickel-tin-manganese alloy are disclosed. Also disclosed are processing steps that can be performed to fabricate the guitar strings from the alloy. Further described herein are alternative uses for the strings on other electric stringed instruments.
HOT UNCOILING OF METAL
A system for heat-treating a coil of metal can include a furnace, an unwinding system, and a quenching system. The furnace may receive the coil of metal and elevate a temperature of the metal to be within a pre-heated temperature range, such as a homogenizing temperature range or an annealing temperature range. The unwinding system may unwind at least a portion of the coil in a heated state in which the metal is within the pre-heated temperature range or before the metal has cooled past a threshold amount below the pre-heated temperature range. The quenching system may receive the unwound portion of the coil from the unwinding device and reduce a temperature of the unwound portion to a within a quenched temperature range within a predetermined amount of time.
Methods for shaping high aspect ratio articles from metallic glass alloys using rapid capacitive discharge and metallic glass feedstock for use in such methods
The disclosure is directed to a method of forming high-aspect-ratio metallic glass articles that are substantially free of defects and cosmetic flaws by means of rapid capacitive discharge forming. Metallic glass alloys that are stable against crystallization for at least 100 ms at temperatures where the viscosity is in the range of 10.sup.0 to 10.sup.4 Pa-s are considered as suitable for forming such high-aspect-ratio articles.
Aluminum alloy wire, aluminum alloy strand wire, covered electrical wire, and terminal-equipped electrical wire
An aluminum alloy contains at least 0.03 mass % and at most 1.5 mass % of Mg, at least 0.02 mass % and at most 2.0 mass % of Si, and a remainder composed of Al and an inevitable impurity, a mass ratio Mg/Si being not lower than 0.5 and not higher than 3.5. In a transverse section of the aluminum alloy wire, a rectangular surface-layer void measurement region having a short side of 30 μm long and a long side of 50 μm long is taken from a surface-layer region extending by up to 30 μm in a direction of depth from a surface of the aluminum alloy wire. A total cross-sectional area of voids present in the surface-layer void measurement region is not greater than 2 μm.sup.2.
ALUMINUM ALLOY SHEET
The present invention pertains to an Al—Mg—Si-based aluminum alloy plate comprising, by mass, 0.20-1.50% of Mg, 0.30-2.00% of Si, and 0.005-0.500% of Sn, the balance being Al and unavoidable impurities, wherein the aluminum alloy plate is characterized in having a structure in which, from among all crystallized substances having a circle-equivalent diameter within the range of 0.3-20 μm as measured using a 500×-magnification SEM, crystallized substances containing Sn identified by an X-ray spectrometer have an average number density in the range of 10 per mm.sup.2 to 2,000 per mm.sup.2, the proportion of the aforementioned average number density of the crystallized substances containing Sn in relation to the average number density of all crystallized substances having the circle-equivalent diameter being within the range of 0.3-20 μm is 70% or above. With this aluminum alloy plate, it is possible to improve filiform corrosion resistance without inhibiting moldability or BH properties after room-temperature aging.
ALUMINUM ALLOY SHEET
The present invention relates to an Al—Mg—Si sheet which contains, in terms of mass %, 0.3-1.0% Mg, 0.5-1.5% Si, 0.005-0.2% Sn, 0.02-1.0% Fe, and 0.02-0.6% Mn, with the remainder comprising Al and unavoidable impurities, characterized by having a structure wherein compounds that are detected with an SEM having a magnification of 500 diameters and are identified with an X-ray spectrometer include Sn compounds which contain Mn and Fe and which have an Sn content of 1.0 mass % or higher and a diameter of 0.3-20 μm in terms of equivalent circular diameter, the average number density of the Sn compounds being 500-3,000 /mm.sup.2, and wherein the length of the boundary between each Sn compound and the aluminum matrix is in the range of 3-20/mm on average in terms of value obtained by dividing the total peripheral length of the Sn compound grain by the area thereof determined with the SEM. This aluminum alloy sheet satisfies the formability after natural aging at room temperature and bake hardenability which are required of automotive outer panels, and has excellent filiform rust resistance.
