Sheet Molding Compound Production Method and Fiber Mat Deposition Device

A method of manufacturing a sheet molding compound (SMC) according to an aspect of the present invention comprises: (i) drawing out a carrier film from a roll to travel on a conveyance path such that the surface of the carrier film is horizontal; (ii) cutting a continuous carbon fiber bundle into short carbon fiber bundles with a chopper disposed above the conveyance path; (iii) allowing the short carbon fiber bundles to fall onto the carrier film traveling on the conveyance path while dispersing them using a dispersing roll disposed below the chopper to deposit a carbon fiber mat on the carrier film; (iv) impregnating the carbon fiber mat with a thermosetting resin composition to obtain a resin-impregnated carbon fiber mat; and v) concurrently with the deposition of the carbon fiber mat, removing fiber dust generated from the short carbon fiber bundles due to contact with the dispersing roll using a dust collector.

Process for pretreating reclaimed cotton fibers to be used in the production of molded bodies from regenerated cellulose

A process for pretreating reclaimed cotton fibers to be used in the production of molded bodies from regenerated cellulose, characterized by effective metal reduction and adjustment of the degree of polymerization and brightness, including a metal removing stage and an oxidative bleaching stage of the reclaimed cotton fibers or pulp produced thereof. Reclaimed cotton fibers treated according to the described process may be used alone or in blends with conventional dissolving pulp as raw material for the production of molded bodies from regenerated cellulose. The process enables technically smooth, safe, and economically feasible spinning via the Viscose or Lyocell process, therefore, the current invention provides an efficient recycling pathway for cotton waste materials.

Carbon fiber recycling apparatus, system and method

A method and apparatus for obtaining carbon fiber from carbon fiber waste (e.g., pre-preg and CFP waste). The method and apparatus use an oxygen free pyrolytic process to volatilize the epoxy resin or other matrix in which the fibers are held to liberate the fibers therefrom. The reactor has a counterflow such that the carbon fibers are moved in one direction and the off gasses are moved in the opposite direction. A combination of steam at the reactor outlet and vacuum pressure at the reactor inlet create the counter flow.
