Wrappable end fray resistant woven protective textile sleeve and method of construction thereof

An end fray resistant textile sleeve includes an elongate wall having warp yarns extending generally parallel to a longitudinal central axis of the sleeve and fill yarns extending circumferentially about the sleeve. The warp yarns include at least two different types of yarns, with one of the types of warp yarns including activateable yarns and another of the types of yarns including non-activateable yarns. The activateable yarns can be provided as being activateable by at least one of heat, fluid and/or pressure, such that upon being activated, the yarns are caused to bond with the adjacent non-activateable warp yarns, as well as with the weft yarns with which they make contact. As such, the activateable yarns, upon being activated, become fixed with abutting warp yarns and weft yarns, thereby inhibiting end fray from resulting during a subsequent cold-cutting operation as well as in use.

A partially degradable polymeric fiber includes a thermally degradable polymeric core and a coating surrounding at least a portion of the core. The thermally degradable polymeric core includes a polymeric matrix including a poly(hydroxy-alkanoate), and a metal selected from the group consisting of an alkali earth metal and a transition metal, in the core polymeric matrix. The concentration of the metal in the polymeric matrix is at least 0.1 wt %. The partially degradable polymeric fiber may be used to form a microvascular system containing one or more microfluidic channels.

A partially degradable polymeric fiber includes a thermally degradable polymeric core and a coating surrounding at least a portion of the core. The thermally degradable polymeric core includes a polymeric matrix including a poly(hydroxy-alkanoate), and a metal selected from the group consisting of an alkali earth metal and a transition metal, in the core polymeric matrix. The concentration of the metal in the polymeric matrix is at least 0.1 wt %. The partially degradable polymeric fiber may be used to form a microvascular system containing one or more microfluidic channels.

A woven fabric includes first and second woven fabric layers with an intermediate layer in between, which form a sensor with an electrical characteristic that changes while a force is acting on the woven fabric. The first layer includes electrically conductive strips and electrically non-conductive strips arranged adjacent to one another in an alternating manner. The second layer includes alternating conductive strips and non-conductive strips that extend transverse to the strips of the first layer. At least some of the threads in each of the conductive strips of the first layer are conductive weft threads. At least some of the threads in each of the conductive strips of the second layer are conductive weft threads. The non-conductive strips of the first and second layers are weft threads.
