Article of footwear and method of manufacturing an article of footwear
12144396 · 2024-11-19 · ·

An article of footwear includes an upper and a strobel stitched to the upper at a series of stitches disposed in stitch holes that extend through the strobel. The strobel and the upper define a foot-receiving cavity with an inner surface of the strobel disposed at the foot-receiving cavity. A midsole is secured to the upper and an outer surface of the strobel is disposed at the midsole. The stitch holes are obstructed such that the stitch holes are not exposed to both the midsole and the foot-receiving cavity. Accordingly, when a flowable polymeric material is injected in a mold cavity to form the midsole with the lower portion of the upper and the strobel in the mold cavity, the stitch holes will not provide a path for entry of the flowable polymeric material into the foot-receiving cavity. A method of manufacturing an article of footwear is disclosed.

A shoe, a sole unit (1) and a method of manufacturing the sole unit (1) having a midsole (2) and an outsole (3) being connected to the midsole (2). The method includes providing a midsole (2) having a first surface (21) configured to face an upper (4), an opposite second surface (22) and a peripheral edge surface (23). The method further includes melting a polymer composition at a first temperature to provide a molten polymer composition. The method further includes applying the molten polymer composition on the second surface (22) of the midsole in the form of a filament (5) forming a plurality of loops (L1, L2, L3, L4, L5, L6) on the second surface (22), thereby forming an outsole (3).

Various articles, such as footwear, apparel, athletic equipment, watchbands, and the like, and methods of forming those articles are presented. The articles are generally formed, in whole or in part, using rapid manufacturing techniques, such as laser sintering, stereolithography, solid deposition modeling, and the like. The use of rapid manufacturing allows for relatively economical and time efficient manufacture of customized articles. Portions of the articles may be manufactured using rapid manufacturing and those portions may be joined with portions formed using conventional, non-rapid manufacturing techniques. The methods may also include performing a scan of an appropriate body part of a user, such as a foot, in order to create a customized article of footwear for the user.
