Tool for design and fabrication of knitted components

Computer based systems and methods for designing and manufacturing consumer products, including knit footwear uppers, and the like. The system provides digital controls for the customization of knitted components, including complex multi-structured knitted components. The system simulates deformations of knit structures and allows the user to control and visualize compensations in the structure(s) of the knitted component to better match between an intended knit design and the actual physical knitted component outcome. They system may manufacture/fabricate a knitted component based on the predicted/estimated deformation behavior of the knit.

MODULAR TOOL FOR DESIGN OF SELF-FOLDING KNIT FABRICS

A method for designing a knitted textile or fabric, the method includes receiving graphical input from a user regarding a knit pattern comprised of different types of individual stitches to be included in a textile or fabric design. The method further includes graphically displaying a representation of the textile or fabric design. The method further includes merging sections of continuous stitches of the same type into at least one block. The method further includes graphically displaying the textile or fabric design as a pattern of the at least one block. The method further includes applying edge rolling indicators and/or folding indicators to the displayed pattern of the at least one block, where the edge rolling and/or folding indicators respectively and graphically illustrate predicted edge rolling and folding behaviors of a physical textile or fabric.

Pattern data for at least two sizes are converted to knit data, regarding knitted products to be graded. Regarding the knit data for at least two sizes, characteristic points specifying shapes of the knitted products and intermediate shapes specifying shapes of the knitted products between the characteristic points are generated. By interpolating or extrapolating the characteristic points and the intermediate shapes, according to a desired size of the knitted products, characteristic points and intermediate shapes for the desired size are generated. Closed loops are generated by connecting the characteristic points and the intermediate shapes, and knit data for the desired size is generated by allocating knitted stitches within patterns specified by the closed loops. Without pattern data for intermediate sizes, knit data for the intermediate sizes are generated from the two size knit data.

Custom fabric cases for electronic devices

A fabric case for an electronic device may include a back panel having a periphery and a side wall that extends around the periphery. The back panel may include a knit image of a user-selected digital photograph or other design. The design of the back panel may be customized according to the user's tastes. The case may be formed using computing equipment and knitting equipment. The computing equipment may receive a digital image from the user and may reduce the resolution and the number of colors in the digital image according to the specifications of the textile machine. Fabric pattern design software may convert the digital image into knitting instructions. The knitting instructions may be executed by knitting equipment to produce a custom back panel having a knit image of the digital photograph. The back panel may be attached to a peripheral side wall to form the fabric case.

A knitting needle storage/display device includes a display flap, and a main flap, which is foldable at first and second fold regions, to form a first end flap portion, a middle flap portion, and a second end flap portion. A strap, being intermittently secured to the display flap, releasably supports a knitting needle between adjacent pairs of intermittently secured locations. The display flap, being secured to the main flap, can be folded between its first and second ends into a display position, and be releasably secured thereat using hook and loop fastening materials. The folded display flap in the display position exposes the ends of the needles. Snap members releasably secure the first and the second end flap portions together, when respectively folded at the first and second fold regions, in either a closed position, or an open position while the display flap is in the display position.
