In a household cleaning appliance configured to execute a cleaning cycle on an article, having a non-bulk dispensing system that stores a single dose of treating chemistry that the dispensing system dispenses to the treating chamber in total as part of the execution of the cleaning cycle, the method includes adding bulk dispensing functionality to the non-bulk dispensing system for operating the dispensing system as a bulk dispensing system.

A laundry treating appliance includes a first basket assembly including a first basket defining a first treating chamber for receiving laundry for treatment in a first wash environment. A balance ring forms an upper periphery of the first basket assembly and is operably coupled to the first basket. A second basket is selectively receivable within at least a portion of the first treating chamber. The second basket defines a second treating chamber for receiving laundry for treatment in a second wash environment.

The laundry treating appliance can comprise a wash basket defining a washing chamber, having a clothes mover in the treating chamber to agitate the clothes during a cycle of operation for cleaning. The method can comprise supplying a wash liquid to the treating chamber and rotating the clothes mover within the treating chamber with an electric motor operating at a high duty cycle wash phase and a low duty cycle wash phase.

A washing machine with a liquid additive supply device capable of sensing an amount of liquid additive contained therein. A buoyancy body and a sensing unit are disposed in a reservoir tank of the liquid additive supply device. The vertical position and therefore the distance between the buoyancy body and a sensing unit vary with the surface level of liquid additive in the reservoir tank due to buoyancy effect. The buoyancy body may include a magnetic body and the sensing unit can detect the intensity of the magnetic body. The surface level of the liquid additive is too low, the sensing unit can generate a signal indicative of liquid additive shortage.

The laundry/garment treatment system comprises a source of an additive/treating composition to be added a washing machine without any laundry/garments contained therein, and the source of the additive/treating composition is connected to the washing machine to supply a quantity of additive/treating composition thereto for mixing with water and formation of a treatment mixture. A circulating pump is connected to the washing machine for pumping the treatment mixture into a treatment holding tank. A mixture feed valve controls the flow of treatment mixture from the treatment holding tank back into the washing machine for treating the laundry/garments, following washing thereof.

A method for operating a laundry washing machine (100; 300) having a controllable dosing device (120; 191) suitable to supply water from an external water supply line (E) into a container (110; 172) and a metering device (125; 192) arranged between the external water supply line (E) and the container (110; 172) for determining the amount of water flowing through the dosing device (120; 191). The method measures the surplus water flowing through the dosing device (120; 191) after deactivation of the latter in a first water conveying step for conveying a first amount of water from the external water supply line (E) into the container (110; 172) and controls the supply of water in a further water conveying step taking in account the surplus water previously measured.
