FIBER MAT, METHOD OF MAKING THE FIBER MAT, AND BITUMINOUS ROOFING PRODUCT

A fiber mat includes an assembly of fibers including a minority portion including a set of polymer fibers and a majority portion including a set of fibers different than the minority portion, wherein the minority portion is a plane parallel to a plane of the majority portion of the assembly of fibers; and a binder including an organic resin, wherein an air permeability of said fiber mat is not substantially different from an equivalent weight fiber mat containing a homogenous mat structure and wherein the fiber mat provides at least a 5% increase in tear when placed in a bituminous roofing product compared to an equivalent bituminous roofing product made with the equivalent weight fiber mat containing the homogenous mat structure.

The invention relates to a liquid applied roofing membrane which contains a textile with a compatibility coating covering essentially all of the fibers of the textile forming a coated textile, a first membrane, and a second membrane. The textile contains a plurality of yarns, the yarns comprising a plurality of fibers. The compatibility coating has a weight of between about 0.5 and 10% of the weight of the textile and contains a first chemistry. The first membrane contains a second chemistry and is located on the first side of the textile, forms the lower surface of the roofing membrane, and covers at least a majority of the second side of the textile. The second membrane contains a third chemistry and is located on the second side of the textile. The first, second, and third chemistries comprise the same class of polymeric material.

A membrane including a top waterproofing layer and optionally a layer of fiber material, wherein the top waterproofing layer includes at least one thermoplastic polymer P, at least one thermochromic pigment TP, and at least one UV-light absorber A. Such membranes are able to change their color as a response to a change in temperature, which enables controlling the amount of heat energy absorbed into the membrane and transmitted to a building structure. Further, a method for producing a membrane and to a method for covering a substrate using the membranes of the invention.
