Process and apparatus for making a continuous web of fibrous material
A process for making a continuous web of a longitudinally corrugated fibrous material includes passing the web between a rigid cylinder having circumferential grooves that are flanked and shaped to define a substantially corrugated profile on substantially on the entire thickness of the web, and a presser which has an external layer made of an elastically compressible material and which is maintained adherent to the rigid cylinder so as to cause the continuous web to penetrate into the grooves and thus obtain the corrugations, At the same time, the continuous web is subjected to a reduction of the speed of the surface in contact with the presser with respect to the speed of the surface in contact with the rigid cylinder so as to have a longitudinally corrugated pattern on both surfaces and transverse ripples at least at the corrugated surface that was in contact with the rigid cylinder.
Method and apparatus for producing a web of extensible fibrous material
A method of producing a web of extensible fibrous material includes passing a web of fibrous material between a cylinder of rigid material having, on the side surface, a plurality of incisions running circumferentially, and a web having an outer layer of elastically compressible material kept locally pressed, at a pressing area, against the side surface of the cylinder, the cylinder and the web being configured and arranged so that the web adheres to the cylinder over a portion located downstream of the pressing area, the web has a portion downstream of the pressing area with a concavity substantially opposite to that of a portion of the web upstream of the pressing area, and the peripheral speeds of the cylinder and the web in the pressing area are substantially equal.
Extensible paper and its use in the production of expanded slit packaging wrap and void fill products
An extensible slit sheet paper product is produced having an expandable slit pattern that forms open cells upon expansion of the paper product. The paper product is an extensible paper having an extensibility in the range from 1-9% in the machine direction and 1-5% in the cross direction. The expansion produces an array of hexagonal cells. The expanded extensible paper can be used to wrap an object for shipping by wrapping and cushioning the object in the expanded slit sheet material. The extensible, expandable slit sheet paper can be wrapped around itself to produce a void fill product.
Thermoplastic fiber sheet
A thermoplastic fiber sheet includes at least cellulosic fibers and thermoplastic resin fibers having a softening temperature of 100 to 140° C. A weight ratio of the cellulosic fibers to the thermoplastic resin fibers (the cellulosic fibers: the thermoplastic resin fibers) is 4:6 to 2:8, and porosity is 20 to 70%.
Elongated tubular articles from wet-laid webs
Embodiments of the present invention relate to elongated tubular members that include at least one layer comprising a cellulose ester. In some cases, the cellulose ester may be in the form of staple fibers. The layer may be formed via a wet-laid fiber web that may also include cellulose fibers. The elongated tubular members may be suitable for use with food and/or beverage items as, for example, drinking straws or other similar items.
Expanded slit sheet cushioning products with novel slit pattern and paper properties
In the preferred embodiments, the present invention provides substantially improved slit sheet cushioning products by advantageously combining novel paper properties with novel slit patterns for improved features and characteristics. In some illustrative and non-limiting example embodiments, cushioning products of the present invention can include, e.g., a novel slit sheet material in combination with extensible paper employed as, e.g., a cushioning pad or as cushioning within an envelope product, wherein the cushioning product can be substantially more resilient, but, yet, e.g., thinner for better utilization of space.
EXPANDED SLIT SHEET CUSHIONING PRODUCTS WITH NOVEL ALTERNATING EXPANSION PATTERNS
In the preferred embodiments, a paper cushioning product is provided that includes: a sheet of slit paper having a slit pattern, the slit pattern upon expansion forming cells that include land regions that are inclined with respect to a plane of an unexpanded sheet; the sheet of slit paper being configured such that expanding the sheet of slit paper with said slits produces land regions that have angles of inclination from the plane of the unexpanded sheet, with said land regions alternating on a row by row basis in forward and backward directions such that the slit pattern upon expansion includes an alternating cell opening pattern wherein each row opens in an opposite direction from an adjacent row. In preferred embodiments, the product further includes at least one of a) said sheet of slit paper is extensible paper that is extensible in a machine direction in a range of at least 3% and/or b) said sheet of slit paper includes slits configured such that upon expansion the slit sheet paper expands into an alternating row expansion pattern.
Aramid compound paper with pinning effect and preparation method thereof
The present invention provides aramid compound paper with a pinning effect and a preparation method for the aramid compound paper. The preparation method for the aramid compound paper includes the following steps: preparing aramid paper from polyphenylene sulfide meltblown superfine fibers and aramid chopped fibers with wet papermaking; then placing polyphenylene sulfide meltblown superfine fiber non-woven fabrics on two sides of aramid base paper as face layers respectively; embedding the polyphenylene sulfide superfine fibers on the face layers into pores of the aramid paper at a middle layer by using a hot-pressing technology to be fusion-joined to the polyphenylene sulfide super-short fibers which are uniformly dispersed in the aramid base paper, so as to form the pinning effect; and meanwhile, melting and then solidifying the polyphenylene sulfide superfine fibers between the aramid chopped fibers to form a continuous network, and firmly bonding the aramid chopped fibers.
