A paving and lighting system for lighting a pathway includes a plurality of frame members which are arranged with respect to each other to define a framework. The framework lies substantially on a plane and defines a plurality of paver receiving cells. Each one of a plurality of paver tiles is positioned in an associated paver receiving cell of the plurality of paver receiving cells. Each one of a plurality of light strips is coupled to and positioned atop an associated frame member of the plurality of frame members. A processor is operatively coupled to each light strip of the plurality of light strips. The processor selectively operates the plurality of light strips to emit a selected light pattern.

A helipad includes an LED matrix built directly into the landing surface. LEDs within the matrix can be illuminated in controlled patterns to create visible objects to convey information to the pilot of an aircraft landing at the helipad and other personnel. The LEDs can be RGB color-change LEDs that are controlled to output selected colors, and can be activated with variable intensity. One of the patterns can be an arrow aligned with the wind direction as determined by an adjacent windsock, and another pattern can be determined by wind velocity as determined by an adjacent anemometer.

PAVER WITH SOLAR PANEL

A solar paving module (200) is described. The module (200) comprises: a frame (234); a power generating element (216) comprising at least one photovoltaic element (216) supported in the frame (234); a light transmitting surface screen (218) covering the electrical power generating element (216) and having a planar upper surface; and an electrical connector connected electrically to the power generating element (216). The solar paving module (200) comprises a heat sink (260) in thermal connectivity with the power generating element (216), the heat sink comprising a heat sink plate (262) and one or more ground plates (280) connected to the heat sink plate (262) and forming a heat sink anchor.

Pedestal paver with transparent or translucent inserts

A pedestal paver has a plurality of apertures. There are a plurality of waveguide inserts wherein there is one waveguide insert in one apertures. The waveguide inserts are formed from a transparent or translucent material to permit light generated from a light source disposed vertically below the pedestal paver to shine upwardly through the waveguide insert. The waveguide inserts have a configuration that is complementary to the portion of the body of the pedestal paver that defines the aperture. The pedestal paver is supported by the pedestal at a corner of the paver.
