PIEZOELECTRIC POWER GENERATION FOR ROADWAYS
Road signal systems and methods for controlling road signals include a piezoelectric layer integrated with a surface that undergoes stresses with traffic passing over the surface. A power collection circuit is configured to collect and store power from the piezoelectric layer. One or more devices receive electrical power from the power collection circuit responsive to traffic passing over the surface.

Illuminated heated driveway
The illuminated heated driveway is an overlay panel that covers and heats a covered area exemplified by, but not limited to, a driveway or a sidewalk. Multiple overlay panels may be conjoined to cover an area larger than a single overlay panel. The overlay panels are powered by a power assembly that couples to a connector on one of the overlay panels. Additional connectors may electrically couple adjacent overlay panels. Within each overlay panel, a heating element and a lighting system is electrically connected to the power connectors. The heating element may melt wintry weather that accumulates on the panel and the lighting system may cause the panel to glow for improved visibility. The power assembly may comprise a time to turn the panel on and off throughout the day.
PAVER AND METHODS FOR MANUFACTURING AND USING SAME
The disclosed technology includes a paver including a gripping structure on the bottom surface thereof, as well as methods for manufacturing and using the same.
Pavement Interlayer
An energy generation system includes a pavement interlayer, comprising: at least one layer of geosynthetic interlayer material, a plurality of piezoelectric elements; at least one transmission line, coupled to the plurality of piezoelectric elements, for transmitting power generated by the plurality of piezoelectric elements to an output.
MODULAR PAVEMENT SLAB
A modular pavement slab comprises a body, a strain sensor array, and a sensor processor. The body includes a top surface, a bottom surface, and four side surfaces. The modular pavement slab is configured to be coupled to at least one other modular pavement slab via connectors along at least one of the side surfaces. The strain sensor array is retained within the body and is configured to detect a plurality of strains on the body resulting from vehicular traffic across the top surface of the body. The sensor processor is in communication with the strain sensor array. The sensor processor is configured to communicate input signals to the strain sensor array, receive output signals from the strain sensor array, and determine a plurality of time-varying strain values, each strain value indicating a strain experienced over time by a successive one of a plurality of regions of the body.

Systems and computer-implemented methods for analyzing transfer of force through pavement slabs
A system for pavement slab analysis based on data regarding transfer of force through a sensing volume responsive to exertion of weight on the sensing volume by passing objects including a precast pavement slab defining the sensing volume and having a top surface, a plurality of strain gauges embedded in the pavement slab within the sensing volume, and load-transferring connector(s) attaching the pavement slab to an adjacent slab. The strain gauges are distributed across an XY coordinate plane parallel to the top surface. The system also includes a processing element and computer-readable instructions for receipt of electrical signals from the strain gauges and to analysis of the electrical signals to determine one or more of the following: (A) risk of a structural defect in the pavement slab, (B) risk of a problem with underlying sub-grade beneath the pavement slab, and (C) movement of the passing objects across the top surface.
Pedestal Mounted Paver Heating System
Some deck or patio areas constructed of payers mourned on adjustable pedestal supports must remain snow and ice free on their top surfaces. The pedestal-mounted paver heating system is designed to allow easy installation of electric heating cable that is positioned against the bottom surface of pavers so that heat generated by the cable is efficiently transferred up into the payers to raise their temperature enough to prevent the accumulation of snow and ice on their top surfaces.
Roll of interlayer
A roll of interlayer, suitable for laying between layers of pavement, the roll of interlayer includes at least one layer of interlayer material, a plurality of piezoelectric elements; at least one transmission line coupled to the plurality of piezoelectric elements for transmitting power generated by the plurality of piezoelectric elements to an output. The interlayer is in the form of an elongate, flexible sheet.
