A control system for a conveyor system of a machine includes a motor to drive the conveyor system, and a pump operably coupled to the motor. A solenoid actuator actuates the pump. The control system includes operator interfaces to enable an operator to provide inputs indicative of a desired engine speed, and a desired conveyor speed. The control system includes a controller which determines a pump speed based on the desired engine speed, and determines a maximum possible motor speed based on the pump speed and a maximum possible gear ratio between the pump and the motor. The controller determines a desired motor speed based on the desired conveyor speed. The controller determines a solenoid actuation current based on the desired motor speed and the maximum possible motor speed, and supplies the solenoid actuation current to the solenoid actuator to control a speed of the conveyor system.

A road paver includes a screed for applying a material layer to a foundation and a layer thickness detecting device for detecting the thickness of the applied material layer. The layer thickness detecting device includes a first sensor for detecting a first distance from the applied material layer and a second sensor for detecting a second distance from the foundation. The layer thickness detecting device is securely attached to the screed.

High speed stereoscopic pavement surface scanning system and method

There is disclosed a mobile pavement surface scanning system and method. In an embodiment, the system comprises one or more light sources mounted on the platform for illuminating a pavement surface, one or more stereoscopic image capturing devices mounted on the platform that capture sequential images of the illuminated pavement surface and a movement sensor that encodes movement of the platform and provides a synchronization signal for time or distance synchronized image capture. One or more processors synchronize the images captured by the image capturing devices and stamps the images with one or more of time and distance data, calculate 3D elevation for each point on the pavement surface using stereoscopic principles, and assesses the quality of the pavement surface to determine the level of pavement surface deterioration.
