A latex emulsion that includes an aqueous carrier liquid and a latex copolymer formed from reactants comprising butyl methacrylate, wherein the reactants comprise at least 20 wt. % a vinyl monomer, based on the total weight of ethylenically unsaturated monomers in the latex copolymer. A homopolymer formed from the vinyl monomer preferably exhibits a glass transition temperature of between about 10 C. and about 30 C. A coating formed from the latex emulsion preferably exhibits a dry adhesion of greater than about 4 pounds per linear inch when applied between a thermoplastic polyolefin roofing membrane and a plywood roofing substrate at an average coat weight of about 6 lbs/100 ft.sup.2 and subjected to 180 peel testing according to ASTM D903 with a 2-inch per minute pull rate. The latex emulsion may include a second latex copolymer or stage, and may be used as part of an aqueous adhesive composition.

Environmentally responsible insulating construction blocks and structures constructed primarily of recycled materials are disclosed. The environmentally friendly construction blocks and structures comprise shredded rubber tire pieces coated with silica fume, slag cement and cement, which are then mixed with water and formed in a mold. A layer of grout or a fireproof material may be disposed on one side of the environmentally responsible insulating construction block. The environmentally responsible insulating construction blocks provide high insulation as well as strength for applications such as green roofing, wall construction and green roofing decks. Environmentally friendly structures can be built by pouring the coated shredded rubber tire pieces into molds to form walls, and then to pour a layer of the coated shredded rubber tire pieces as a roof deck, thereby creating a self-supporting structure in a monolithic pour.

The present disclosure relates more particularly to roofing granules, such as solar-reflective roofing granules, and to methods for making and using them in roofing products. Provided are, for example, a collection of solar-reflective roofing granules having a solar reflectivity of at least 70%, (e.g., at least 80 wt % or even at least 90 wt %) of the solar-reflective roofing granules of the collection having a major aspect ratio of at least 4 and a minor aspect ratio of at least 3. Also provided is a roofing product that includes a substrate; a bituminous material coated on the substrate, the bituminous material having a top surface; and a collection of solar-reflective roofing granules as described herein disposed on the top surface of the bituminous material, thereby substantially coating the bituminous material in a region thereof.

CERAMIC GRANULES WITH A PHOTOCATALYTIC COATING AND METHOD OF MAKING

A method is disclosed for producing photocatalytic coated ceramic granules. The method involves providing a coatable composition containing an inorganic binder and a variety of photocatalytic particles, such as TiO2, ZnO, Ti(OH)4, doped derivatives, or combinations thereof. These photocatalytic particles have a surface area per weight of no more than 15 m2/g. The coatable composition is then applied to uncoated base ceramic granules, resulting in intermediate coated granules. Finally, the intermediate coated granules are heated at a temperature of at least 700? C., leading to the formation of photocatalytic coated ceramic granules. These granules exhibit a Total Solar Reflectance (TSR) value of at least 0.7. This method offers an efficient and effective way to produce ceramic granules with enhanced photocatalytic properties.

Liquid-applied waterproofing membrane comprising oxazolidine and aldimine

The present invention describes a one-part moisture-curing liquid-applied waterproofing membrane including a polyurethane polymer and both an aldimine and an oxazolidine as blocked amine hardeners in a specific ratio range. The membrane has a low odor, a long shelf life stability, a low viscosity at low solvent content, a sufficiently long open time to allow hand application and cures fast to a solid elastic material. The liquid-applied waterproofing membrane can be suitable for roofing applications, possessing high strength, high elongation and good durability under outdoor weathering conditions in a broad temperature range.

A reflective particulate material includes a particulate substrate having high total solar reflectance, bulk and apparent densities and toughness, and a low dust index. The reflective particulate can have a total solar reflectance of 80% to 87%, a toughness of 1% or fewer fines, an apparent density of 2.75 g/cm.sup.3 or greater, and a dust index of 1 or lower. A method of manufacturing the reflective particulate material includes preparing a slurry of the particulate substrate, spray drying the slurry to form a spray dried particulate, crushing the spray dried particulate to form a crushed particulate, and heating/calcining the crushed particulate. The heated, crushed particulate may further be coated to form a coated roofing granule.
