Hinge mechanism for a flexible electronic device

A hinge mechanism includes first and second inner guiding members secured on a base seat, and first and second movable members slidable engaged with the first and second inner guiding members and connected with first and second substrate units. During the movement of the movable members to an upright folded state, inboard end edges of the substrate units are moved away from each other to provide a bending space therebetween for a flexible display attached to the substrate units to be bendably received therein.

Hinge Cover Assembly

This hinge cover assembly provides a cover member, stopping member, and fastener mechanism that work in tandem to stop the relative rotation of objects along an axis. This improved hinge cover assembly can be incorporated into multiple hinged object assemblies, including doors, windows, and cabinets.

MANDREL FLEX CIRCUIT ROUTING

Cable assemblies for providing electrical communication between hinged sections of an electronic device are described. The cable assemblies can include a cover that covers one or more cables that run through a hinge region of the electronic device. The cable and cover can be drawn over a mandrel of the hinge region. The cover and the portions of the mandrel can be visible to a user at the hinge region of the electronic device. The cover can be sufficiently rigid to guide a path of the cable and protect the cable from bending beyond a prescribed angle during rotation of the electronic device at the hinge region. The cover can also be sufficiently rigid to prevent ceasing or folding of the cover and the cable during rotation of the electronic device at the hinge region.

Liquid ingress control for electronic devices

Invasive material ingress mitigation and control features are positioned in a hinge that uses a flexible cable and cable cover at a gap between housings of a portable electronic device. The features include hydrophobic materials on the cover or a cover-facing surface of the device housing, a barrier between the cover and the device housing, channels or protrusions on the cover-facing surface of the top case, a series of different top case surface feature modifications, and a flex cover profile modification that controls and limits contacting surface area between the cover and the top case.

Cable Routing in a Portable Information Handling System

A portable information handing system. The portable information handling system includes a base chassis, the base chassis comprising a motherboard, the motherboard comprising a processor and a bus coupled to the processor, the base chassis portion comprising a cable routing bracket; a display chassis, the display chassis being rotationally-coupled to the base chassis via a hinge, the hinge having a corresponding hinge axis, the display chassis comprising a display chassis component; and, a flexible printed circuit cable, the flexible printed circuit cable being coupled to the motherboard and the display chassis component, the flexible printed circuit cable being routed from the motherboard to the display chassis component via the cable routing bracket, the cable routing bracket causing the flexible printed circuit cable to pivot about the hinge axis of the hinge when the display chassis portion is rotated.
